💬 Ask specific questions
🙏 Be respectful of their time
⏰ Give them enough notice before deadlines
A last-minute “HELP ME!” email when the deadline is tomorrow isn't the best strategy. College counselors are there to help—but they need time to actually help you.

🎓 Don’t Fill This Section Too Early.

When completing your college applications, it can be tempting to fill out every section as soon as possible.

But when it comes to current courses, waiting can actually save you time and prevent unnecessary work.

Why?

📚 Classes change.
📅 Schedules change.
🚫 You may end up doing extra work if you enter information before everything is finalized.

A better approach?

Wait until:
✅ Your classes are finalized
✅ Your schedule is fixed
✅ Your senior year begins

Then enter the most accurate information.

Plan once. Focus more. Stress less.

College applications already come with plenty of moving pieces. There's no need to create extra work for yourself by updating information that may change.

Try this simple strategy:
Take a piece of paper and make two columns:
➡️ Costs
➡️ Benefits

Then go one step further—weight what matters most to you.
For example:
💰 Cost may be a major factor.
👨‍👩‍👧 Being close to family might matter enormously.
📚 A specific academic program could be a top priority.
🏙️ Location might matter—but perhaps not as much.
Not every factor deserves equal weight.

The right college isn't necessarily the one with the longest list of benefits. It's the one whose benefits matter most to you.

Think your college application needs to be filled with formal clubs, competitions, and impressive titles?

Not necessarily.

If you regularly spend meaningful time on something you genuinely enjoy, it counts as part of your story.

That could be:

📷 Photography
🎵 Music
🎨 Painting
🎮 Gaming
✍️ Writing
🏃 Sports
🧑‍🍳 Cooking
…and much more.

What matters is your engagement, consistency, and what the activity means to you.

Your application should show more than what you do in class. It should help colleges understand who you are outside the classroom.

Activities ≠ just classes.

Don't overlook the interests that make you you.

🎓 Don't make your college decision alone.
Yes, it's your future—but that doesn't mean you have to figure everything out by yourself.

Talk to people you trust:
👨‍👩‍👧 Your family and parents
👩‍🏫 Your teachers
🎓 Your college counselor
🤝 Mentors and other trusted adults
Ask them to help you think through the pros and cons of each option.

You know what you want—but people who have more life experience may see things you haven't considered yet. Listen to their perspective, ask questions, and then make the decision that's right for you.
