Did you know I am a painter as well as a singer? I would guess that most performers are artistic in many different ways. Here is a piece I made way back in 2017! Sparkle has always been a part of my personal brand, from before was born! I distinctly remember getting a purple sparkley pencil as a prize at the dentist when I was 7 and it was my prized possession 😂

Happy Monday musical friends! Here is a I like to use in the studio. 🎶 It starts with a Legato hum (or if you want to try that!) and finishes with a arpeggio. Sit or stand up straight, take a deep breath, and give it a try!

Hey singers! I said I would do this series but I kept getting sidetracked! The EPSILON is the and it represents the “eh” sound. Pop quiz! I hid a few epsilon sounds in this caption. Can you find them? 😉

Good morning friends!✨Here is a for you... As a singer, I also find that the opposite applies, as well! Learning a language can help you get better at performing your songs! Here’s an example: When I took German in college, I was able to really understand what I was singing in voice lessons. That made me a better performer than just knowing how to pronounce the words and having a general idea of what my song was about. That’s why in my voice studio, we focus on translating our lyrics when we learn a new piece. I’m curious what languages you speak! Let me know in the comments 👇

Quick tip! Try these gentle warm ups when your voice is recovering. Lip trills are known by many names, bubbling, raspberries, and buzzing to name a few. Straw singing is when you put a straw into water and vocalize through that. Let me know if you would like a demo!

Marian Anderson sings 'Ave Maria' - Stokowski conducts 08/16/2020

Happy singer Sunday! I wanted to share a little bit about the iconic Marian Anderson. I just found out about the Marian Anderson Historical Residence Museum in south Philly! Ms. Anderson Is a world renowned contralto (lowest female voice) who performed between 1925 to 1965. Check out this gorgeous rendition of Schubert’s ”Ave Maria” from 1944! She is notably the first black person to perform at the met in 1955!
Unfortunately, I learned that the museum is suffering from water damage due to flooding in the basement. If you would like to donate to the The Marian Anderson Historical Society and preserve this piece of American musical history, please click the link! https://gf.me/u/yjvtmn

Today is my first post! The first sound I am sharing is called “esh”. It looks like a stretched out s but represents the “shh” sound. You will also notice there are brackets around the symbol. This is to help differentiate an word or character from a regular word. In this case it‘s easy to tell because there is no esh symbol in English, but some IPA characters are just like regular letters from the Latin alphabet! Fun fact: Esh can be found in (bouche), (schlecht), and (lasciate) but not in ! Come back soon for more !
