In 1910, Alexander Scriabin used this unique chord in his orchestral work Prometheus: Poem of Fire.

Obsessed with mysticism and the supernatural, Scriabin believed this chord captured divine powers.

Notice how it is built from intervals of fourths rather than the traditional thirds of classical harmony.

For the remaining five years of his life, Scriabin continued to base much of his piano and orchestral music around this harmony.

It became one of the very few chords in music to earn its own name: the Mystic Chord, also known as the Prometheus Chord.

This was one of this little student’s very first piano lessons, and his smile says everything.

Learning music isn’t just about playing the right notes. It’s about feeling comfortable, and encouraged, and excited to come back next week. When students enjoy their very first lesson, that’s often the beginning of a lifelong love of music.
