Preschoolers love routine and thrive on boundaries the same way our younger kids do, if not more so. They may be expert boundary pushers and seem to have endless energy, but they really do still need so much sleep!

It helps to have healthy sleep associations that help them to feel safe and secure in their cozy sleep environment. Right along with a predictable pre-sleep routine and some crystal clear sleep time boundaries.

Toddler sleep might be my very favorite. No matter how strong willed they may be, they absolutely need a lot of sleep to balance out the immense amount of learning and development they go through every day.

It makes a big difference to curate the ideal sleep environment and pair it with ideal sleep timing, and clear and well reviewed sleep boundaries they can understand. This list is just about everything you need for a toddler who loves sleep!

Baby's become more particular about their sleep environment after the age of 4 months. They are also smart and making associations left and right. This is when it's realistic to start offering sleep associations that will serve them in building a positive relationship with sleep.

Newborns don't need very much to sleep, but it's always helpful to offer a closed environment for times when sleep is hard. White noise, darkness, and swaddling are all helpful tools for when sleep is needed, but is not coming easily.

As always I recommend following AAP guidelines for safe sleep for times when sleep is unsupervised. This means baby is placed on their back in a safe sleep space such as an empty bassinet, packnplay, or crib,

Life can feel very hard when your baby is only taking short or unpredictable naps. This is very normal for babies under 4 months of age, but as they become older babies, they are capable of long restorative and predictable day sleep.

Read my blog (link in bio!) all about how to ensure that naps are successful in your home and your child is getting all of the healthy sleep they need to grow and thrive.

Daycare is mostly wonderful, but can also negatively impact sleep. This makes it all the more valuable to support your child in learning healthy independent sleep skills so that even if daycare sleep is less than ideal, you can feel confident they are able to balance it out with extra restorative sleep at home.

Read my blog (link in bio!) all about realistic expectations as well as tools to facilitate improved sleep and daycare.

Many children are ready to transition away from their afternoon nap between 3 and 5 years old.

The most important thing to know is that even if your child is no longer benefiting from day sleep, it may take time for them to tolerate that long period of wakefulness between the morning and bedtime. It will help to offer early bedtimes and take other steps to ensure they are getting all the sleep they need now that they are done with regular day sleep.

Read my blog (link in bio!) to learn more about how to know when it's truly time, and how to support them in moving away from that nap.

The 2 to 1 Nap Transition is exciting! It's the beginning of longer mornings, more opportunities for outings and adventures, and a simpler schedule with one looooong afternoon break.

The first step is confirming that your toddler is actually ready - usually that's 15 months old at the very earliest.

The next step is supporting them in this exciting, and oftentimes gradual transition.

Sibling room sharing can be fun and help to develop really close bonds. It can also make sleep a little trickier for some families so it's worth putting a little time and effort into setting your little sleepers up for success.

My biggest recommendation is simply to support each child in learning healthy independent sleep skills before initiating room sharing. Then to implement realistic and lovingly firm boundaries that will encourage regular healthy sleep for all!

Read my blog (link in bio!) all about sibling room sharing and how to make it successful.

Sent via one is for the parents of toddlers and big kids. They know and love their parents SO MUCH and are familiar with exactly how to draw out the bedtime routine for waaayyy too long, often to the point of missing their sleep window entirely and leading to a second wind of energy!

If never-ending bedtime routines are the norm in your home, please read my blog post all about how to finally put an end to it in a way that is kind and comfortable for your kids.

I love sleep - for myself, my children, for anyone who wants it. We all feel better and think better when we're getting regular hours of consolidated sleep.

And no one deserves or needs regular sleep more than babies, children, and the people who take care of them.

Supporting babies and children in learning healthy sleep skills can be tricky and emotionally charged- which is why I feel so passionate about teaching and supporting families who are struggling.
