Did you know?

Kamehameha Day was established on June 11, 1872, by Lot Kapuāiwa (Kamehameha V) to honor his grandfather, Kamehameha I — the fearless leader who united the Hawaiian Islands.

Early celebrations featured carnivals, fairs, horse races, foot races and even velocipede races. Today, the tradition continues with iconic lei-draping ceremonies, floral parades and gatherings that celebrate Hawaiian culture and history.
