PART I of IV: MANA Sports asked Kru J, “How long have you studied the Martial Art of Muay Thai?”

End of this month (August), I will be in the Laupahoehoe School of Muay Thai (out of Hawaii) for 15 years. I was an assistant instructor for 8 yrs. I learned and honed my skills in all aspects of the class, including observation and assessment of student form and technique, as well as explaining and demonstrating techniques and the fundamental physical, mental and philosophical principles behind them. I started from simply taking care of the class's equipment, to standing up front while stretching and doing formwork, to leading stretching and formwork, to explaining techniques and philosophy, to running entire classes and leading competition trainings. Training to be an instructor also helped me improve as a practitioner of Muay Thai. I was promoted to full instructor under Ajan Ta in 2016; full instructor status is approaching 5 yrs.” -- Kru J
