For Joshua, the ukulele isn’t just an instrument — it’s a source of pure joy and daily inspiration that pushes him to grow as a musician. His dedication has already led him to write 11 original songs, including his latest, “Beautiful” — a heartfelt tribute to the wonders of nature. Aloha, friends! Get ready for an amazing afternoon of music and giving back! Jody Kamisato & the Ukulele Hale Rising Stars are taking the stage at Ala Moana Center Stage this Saturday, August 29th from 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm — and it’s all in support of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Food Drive Day!

The fun runs from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm, and there are so many ways to get involved. Bring shelf-stable food items to donate, or make a monetary donation at the event or in participating mall stores through August 29th. Plus, enjoy live entertainment, games, cool prizes, and learn about local hunger relief programs — there’s something for everyone!

Together, we can make a real difference in our community. Come on down, soak up the aloha spirit, and help us fight hunger in Hawaii. We can’t wait to see you there! 🤙

There’s nothing quite like watching students grow into confident musicians — but seeing lifelong friendships form along the way? That’s something truly special. 🎸

Meet Kenzo and Mason, two budding UKEstars who are proof that music is even better with a good buddy by your side. Watch as they team up with their instructor Jody Kamisato to perform his original composition, “Local Moco” — a fun and creative nod to his favorite local dish, the Loco Moco.

But that’s not all! The boys also worked on their stage presence and showmanship, and let’s just say — they delivered. We couldn’t be prouder. Hit play and check it out! 🤙😆

Teaching Laurie Oue, Allison Shigezawa, Brenda Yim, and her son Nick is something we truly cherish. Every week, they walk through our doors at Ukulele Hale with an eagerness to learn that is simply infectious.

What makes this group extra special is that Laurie, Allison, and Brenda are Punahou School alumni who have kept their friendship alive all these years, and we are so honored to be a small part of that bond. Watching them grow as musicians while nurturing their friendship is exactly why we do what we do.

Here’s a little snippet of them playing “Crazy G,” made famous by the incredibly talented Jake Shimabukuro. We hope it brings as much joy to you as it does to us. Enjoy!

Sammy is a rising star with a passion for the arts! She recently took home the prestigious Ukulele Foundation Prize at the International Ukulele Contest, and her talents don’t stop there. Sammy also loves singing and acting, and was recently featured in “How To Train Your Dragon The Musical Jr.” She currently attends Punahou School, where she continues to shine.

Brayden is equally impressive! He recently claimed 3rd place at the International Ukulele Contest with his group “Heartstrings” — a remarkable achievement at such a competitive event. Beyond music, Brayden is also a talented soccer player. He has performed at some of Hawaii’s most iconic events, including the Waikiki Spam Jam 2026, the 2nd Annual Ukulele Summit, and most recently, the International Ukulele Festival of Hawaii 2026. He currently attends Roosevelt High School.

What makes Sammy and Brayden’s story even more special is the unique connection between their families. Their moms first met and became close friends in Japan, and years later, their children have been brought together through a shared love of music and the ʻukulele. It’s a beautiful full-circle moment, and we can’t wait to see what future collaborations these two talented young artists have in store!

We hope you enjoy their unique rendition of “Shimanchu Nu Takara” which means “Treasure of the Island People” a beloved song written and recorded by the Okinawa-based J-pop band .

We are beyond excited to celebrate one of our very own Ukulele Hale Rising Star — Marley! 🌟 This incredible young woman had recently qualified for the prestigious International Ukulele Competition, and we couldn’t be more proud!

Marley has been wowing audiences with her ʻukulele skills for 7 amazing years, already earning 3rd place at the Mana Maoli Ukulele Contest and taking the top spot at the Dukes Ukes Contest in 2025. But what makes Marley truly extraordinary is her unstoppable drive across multiple disciplines. When she’s not strumming her ʻukulele, she’s tearing up the stage as a competitive dancer with VIBE DANCE ACADEMY and training hard as a member of the Kachi Karate Hawaii Competition Team. As a USA Karate National Junior team member, she even brought home a silver medal from the Pan American Karate Championships. Talk about a triple threat! 🤙🥋🎶

Marley, you are an inspiration to us all. Keep shining, keep strumming, and keep showing the world what you’re made of!

And as a special treat, here’s a beautiful song written and recorded by Marley’s instructor Jody Kamisato and his partner Chris of Heart & Soul.
