We're helping build Hawai‘i’s future healthcare workforce. One student at a time.

During a recent Spotlight Now segment, AHI leaders shared how our programs are creating real pathways into healthcare careers, with training options ranging from 8 to 40 weeks in high-demand roles like nurse aide, medical assistant, surgical technologist, and more.

✅ No prior healthcare experience required
✅ Flexible, hybrid learning for adult students
✅ Strong employer partnerships across Hawai‘i
✅ 100% job placement pathways for graduates

“As a former nurse aide, I know this path is possible,” said AHI Nurse Aide Program Lead Instructor Alysha Ladiero. “It just takes that first step, and someone believing in you.”

With starting salaries for nurse aides reaching up to ~$60,000 with benefits, and surgical technologists earning six figures, these programs are helping local residents build meaningful careers while caring for our communities.

Meet Leilani Wright, Clinical Instructor for the Surgical Technology Program at the Academy for Healthcare Innovation.

Leilani’s journey into healthcare wasn’t a straight line – and that’s exactly what makes her story meaningful for today’s students. After years in education and a growing fascination with anatomy and surgery, she returned to school and graduated from Kapi‘olani Community College, earning her nursing degree and beginning her clinical career at Straub Benioff Medical Center.

From the operating room to cardiac surgery – and now back in the classroom – Leilani brings real-world experience, curiosity, and high expectations into her teaching. She believes surgical technology is more than a job: it’s a passion that requires critical thinking, engagement, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

At AHI, Leilani is proud to help prepare the next generation of surgical technologists – and to show students that there are many paths to success in health care.
