For Teachers Impacted by the Maui Wildfire Disaster:
Aloha. The Hawai’i Teacher Standards Board (HTSB) recognizes the impact that the Maui wildfire disaster has had on educators.
During this difficult time HTSB will be extending the deadline for Maui educators to hold an active license/permit for at least the first semester of school year 2023-2024. On January 2, 2024, the HTSB will reassess whether a further extension is necessary and will inform Maui educators regarding the length of the extension.
HTSB will be also extending their services to provide educators on Maui with priority status in order to expedite the application process. The Licensing Specialist is assigned by the first letter of the applicant’s last name. Their names and contact numbers are identified below:
Tracey Idica: A-H (808) 586-2619
RJ Rodriguez: I-P (808) 586-2603
Dr. Jennifer Padua: Q-Z (808) 586-2604
When contacting your assigned licensing specialist to complete your application for a license/permit please identify yourself as an educator from Maui so that you can be placed on priority status.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Mahalo nui loa,
Branden Kawazoe

The Hawaii Education Association is proud to provide valuable resources and ongoing learning opportunities for Hawai‘i’s educators — the unsung heroes and heroines responsible for preparing the next generation of leaders.
HEA will be offering a free virtual session to broaden our commitment to creating communities of care for Hawai‘i’s educators. We are glad to welcome back Troy Hutchings, Ed.D., senior policy advisor for the National Association for the State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC), who has conducted extensive research on the real-life challenges educators face when helping students who may be facing personal challenges that impact their ability to do well in school.
