Why no "lead" roles in 1st grade? 🎭

It sounds counter-intuitive in a world of solo spotlights, but at HWS, we believe confidence is built from the ground up.

-The Foundation: We start with the "Collective Voice." In the early years, students speak and move in unison, finding rhythm, safety, and a deep sense of belonging in the group.

-The Bridge: In 3rd and 4th grade, the "I" begins to emerge. In our production of W***y Wonka, you see students take their first brave steps into individual expression, while still drawing strength from the ensemble.

-The Result: By 5th grade and Middle School, that foundation has transformed into unshakable independence. In our production of Typecast, they find the courage to stand alone because they’ve spent years learning how to stand together.

One journey. Many plays. A lifetime of confidence.

As the year draws to a close, the magic is still very much alive in our classrooms. From daily chores to creative projects, the children remain deeply engaged, eager to work, and full of joy in these final school days. 🌿✨

Last Friday our campus blossomed with the colors and spirit of May Day! 🌺

In the Waldorf tradition of reverence and rhythm, our Grades 1–8 shared the gift of hula and chant - a beautiful reflection of months of hard work and dedication.

We are incredibly grateful to the amazing Kumu Wong for her leadership and heart. Her guidance brings the spirit of Aloha to life in our keiki, and we are so lucky to have her wisdom shaping this tradition. 🌿

Mahalo to our families for the greenery and support that made this day so magical.

"E Hawai'i, aloha ē." 🤙🏽

Hands full of mochi and hearts full of song. 🎏✨

Yesterday, our students stepped into the role of cultural ambassadors, traveling across campus to share the beauty of Japanese tradition in honor of Boy's/Children’s Day (こどもの日, Kodomo no Hi).

From our youngest in preschool to our leaders in middle school, it was a moving journey of rhythmic movement and shared spirit. Watching the students bridge our community through shared melodies and the sweetness of mochi reminded us of the resilience and joy within every child.

May we all carry the vibrant spirit of the koinobori today and every day! 🍡🎶

Community, connection, and the art of the wili lei.
Mahalo to Kelly for sharing your mana'o and leading our parents in this beautiful workshop today.
Using foraged materials from our own surroundings made the experience feel even more grounded.

We can't wait to see these lei celebrate May Day this Friday!🌺🌿

Our Middle School students had an incredible morning last week learning to prepare traditional miso soup and rice. A huge Mahalo to Mie Sensei and Munakata-san for hosting such a beautiful Japanese cultural immersion! 🇯🇵🥢

At HWS, we love providing opportunities for students to dive deep into different cultures through hands-on experience. Whether it's calculating recipe ratios or practicing Japanese conversation, our students are truly "learning by doing"—engaging head, hands, and heart in every lesson.

At Honolulu Waldorf School, we don’t just teach subjects; we cultivate explorers. When children engage their "head, heart, and hands" with the world around them, learning isn't a task - it's a discovery.

From the garden to the classroom, we protect the spark that comes from within.✨

Experience it for yourself.
