As a land-grant institution, the University of Hawai'i is committed to improving education in Hawai'i and the region, preschool through graduate school. Ours is a complex and robust college providing educational research, policy studies, curriculum development, professional development, and educational services as well as teacher and educational leader preparation programs. The College has eight academic departments and two major research units—the Center on Disability Studies (CDS) and the Curriculum Research & Development Group (CRDG). We are housed within a tier one research university and are honored to be designated RU/VH (Research University; very high research activity) by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The College of Education has over 1,600 students and approximately 350 faculty providing innovative and stimulating programs for students seeking licensure as teachers and preparation for leadership in education. The College offers 5 undergraduate degrees, 2 post-baccalaureate certificates, 4 graduate certificates, 9 masters degrees, 9 doctoral specializations and awards over 700 degrees annually. We pride ourselves on preparing educators at all levels to contribute to a just, diverse, and democratic society, while developing a sense of purpose and a sense of place reflecting our unique location. We have programs in early childhood education, elementary education, middle school education, secondary education, Hawaiian education, special education, physical education, kinesiology, athletic training, rehabilitation counseling, curriculum studies, educational administration, educational psychology, educational technology, educational foundations, and more. We provide multiple alternative routes to teacher licensure and many of our programs are available via distance technology, off campus, or in innovative formats for non-traditional students. Working in partnership with Hawaiʻi’s Department of Education and private schools, the College of Education provides professional development and licensure opportunities for educators as well as prepares researchers and professionals for fields beyond K-12 education and in non-school settings. Students receive a fresh and innovative learning experience at the College of Education. Classes are hands on, practical, and informative with many options available online. Distance Education and Technology
The College of Education is a leader in distance education within Hawaiʻi and nationally. Because of our unique island geography, many potential educators do not have access to campus-based programs. Because of the College's many programs for non-traditional students, many students can take classes through a variety of online and statewide/hybrid class offerings. With Aloha and Commitment
