The ALOHA Cabled Observatory (ACO) is one of but a handful of seafloor observatories worldwide connecting deep-sea science directly to the researchers who are working to understand the complex processes that occur there. Logistically and literally, the ACO is a collection of oceanographic instruments under 5 kilometers of water 100 kilometers north of Oahu, Hawaii, connected to shore by 237 kilometers of cable.

Fin whales heard at the ACO!!! This picture may not seem like sound, but it is a graphical representation of fin whales that have just been heard by the ACO hydrophone.
