Walk Wise Hawaii is a public education program focusing on pedestrian safety and driver awareness of pedestrians and is sponsored by the Hawaii State Department of Transportation through its “Safe Communities” program with funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Safety Tips for Pedestrians:

• Use a “buddy system” to get each other home safely and prevent walking alone.
• Follow the rules of the road.
• If possible, cross streets at crosswalks or intersections. Look for cars in all directions, including those turning left or right.
