The Mid-Pacific Institute Alumni Association's (MPIAA's) Purposes and Relationship to Mid-Pacific Institute:
a) To promote the welfare and advance the mission, vision, goals, and interests of Mid-Pacific Institute
b) To promote and develop good relationships and fellowship among the alumni

Mission Statement: The MPIAA is committed to supporting Mid-Pacific Institute, while perpetuating positive and lasting relationships among the alumni. Vision Statement: The MPIAA will promote the school, an educational institution of excellence academically, athletically, artistically, spiritually, and technologically by building and maintaining relationships with students and alumni so that they each develop a sense of pride, honor, loyalty, and responsibility toward Mid-Pacific.

Mid-Pacific alumnus Yoh Kawanami ’97, Director at Hawaiian Electric, continues to make an impact in the community through leadership, service, and a commitment to giving back.

A former member of Mid-Pacific’s Math Team, his journey has also come full circle: Since 2011, he has volunteered with the team, helping students strengthen their math skills while also offering guidance on college, careers, and leadership.

“Mid-Pacific taught me that success isn’t only about the results, but also the path you take and the people who support you along the way,” Yoh shared.

That mindset continues to drive his leadership at work and in his service to others. We’re proud to celebrate alumni like Yoh who carry the spirit of Mid-Pacific with them wherever their paths lead.

For Dana Harvey ’91, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility at Alexander & Baldwin, Mid-Pacific was a true community that taught her to work hard, give back, take chances, and “always bet on myself.”

“During my time there, I felt supported, safe, and encouraged to try new things,” Dana recalled. “I learned the value of community service and engagement, the importance of collaboration and communication, and lasting lessons through leadership opportunities.”

Decades later, as a proud Mid-Pacific parent, Dana now watches her son build his own confidence and leadership skills in the exact same supportive environment. Her hope is that the friendships he forms at Mid-Pacific will stand the test of time, just as hers have.

Thank you, Dana, for exemplifying how Mid-Pacific’s core values endure and carry forward from one generation to the next.

Wade Ueoka ’93 has built a celebrated career in Hawai‘i’s culinary scene as Executive Chef and Co-Owner of MW Restaurant.

A former Mid-Pacific baseball player, Wade went on to attend Kapiʻolani Community College’s Culinary Arts Program before building his career as a chef. In 2013, he and his wife, Michelle Karr-Ueoka, opened MW Restaurant, which was nominated by the James Beard Foundation for Best New Restaurant in 2014. The couple later opened Artizen by MW, and today, both concepts are located at 888 Kapiolani Boulevard.

Beyond his restaurants, Wade has also expanded his culinary reach through innovative partnerships, including with Hawaiian Airlines.

Over the years, Wade has remained closely connected to Mid-Pacific, generously sharing his talents through custom meals for school events and welcoming alumni, donors and supporters into MW Restaurant for gatherings and class reunions.

We’re grateful for the many ways Wade continues to give back to his Mid-Pacific ʻohana.

Congratulations to Mid-Pacific alumni Khrystyn (Funasaki) Huynh ’06 and Davin Aoyagi ’09 on being named among Pacific Business News’ 2026 40 Under 40 honorees!

Khrystyn and Davin were recognized at PBN’s 27th Annual 40 Under 40 Awards, which celebrates some of Hawai‘i’s most accomplished rising leaders.

Khrystyn is Director of Corporate Marketing at Hawaiian Telcom, while Davin serves as Senior Manager of Government Relations at Turo. Both were honored for the leadership, innovation and impact they are making in their respective fields and across Hawai‘i.

Summer Shiigi '03 is the entrepreneur behind Ten Tomorrow, a Hawaiʻi-based women's clothing line, and Daily Whisk Matcha, a cozy matcha and coffee shop, both under one roof in Kaimukī.

What first drew her to Mid-Pacific was the School of the Arts. Being in an environment that balanced creativity with academics shaped who she is today, along with teachers who believed in her potential and pushed her to try new things, take honors classes, and make the most of what was in front of her.

Her time here included sports, theatre, and upper-level courses that prepared her for college, all in one place. More than two decades later, the friendships she made are still going strong.

"It's been over 20 years and to still support each other fills my heart with so much gratitude," Summer shares.

Summer says Mid-Pacific was the right place for her, and she's proud to be an Owl. Mahalo, Summer, for representing Mid-Pacific with pride and carrying our values forward.

Hawaii News Now recently featured Mid-Pacific track and field standout Destiny Look ’26 as she prepares to take her talents to the international stage.

Following her silver-medal finish in the heptathlon at the USATF U20 Championships, Destiny will represent Team USA at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon.

A HHSAA Hall of Honor inductee and three-time Gatorade Hawai‘i Player of the Year, Destiny has earned multiple state medals and set personal records throughout her outstanding high school career.
Next, she will begin her collegiate career at Southern Methodist University as she continues pursuing her Olympic dreams.

The EdFuture Summit wrapped up today after three days of meaningful conversations about how artificial intelligence is reshaping education, the workplace, and our communities.

Hosted at Mid-Pacific, the summit brought together industry leaders, educators, current students, and alumni to share ideas, explore practical applications of AI, and discuss how students can use emerging technology responsibly while continuing to think critically and engage deeply in their learning.

At the center of the conversation was a shared goal: preparing compassionate, adaptable, and world-ready learners for a future in which AI will be part of everyday life.
