💙💜 Welcoming Week: Branch Volunteer Project

A huge mahalo to the dozen volunteers who came out on Sunday to support our branch during Welcoming Week!

Our volunteers spent time helping with projects that support and beautify our space, and we’re so grateful for the energy, care, and community spirit they brought with them.

We’re especially thankful for our partnerships with Gay for Good Oʻahu, Target, and Hawaiʻi State Federal Credit Union for showing up alongside us and helping make a difference.

Welcoming Week is about connection, belonging, and building stronger communities together — and Sunday was a great example of that in action.

🎬🍿 Welcoming Week at the Kaimuki-Waialae YMCA!

Last night, we welcomed about 20 young people and families from our community for a free movie screening as part of Welcoming Week!

Guests enjoyed free popcorn, a build-your-own ramen bar, and an afternoon of fun and connection. 💙💜

Welcoming Week is all about creating spaces where everyone feels like they belong, and we loved having families come together, relax, and enjoy time with one another.

💧 Safety Around Water (SAW) at the Kaimukī-Waiʻalae YMCA 💧

Yesterday, we wrapped up our Safety Around Water program, where 28 individuals had the opportunity to build skills and confidence in and around the water.

Participants learned important water safety techniques, practiced swim skills, and received instruction designed to help them feel safer and more prepared around pools and other bodies of water.

We’re proud to provide opportunities like this that help strengthen our community and give individuals practical, potentially life-saving skills.

🌎🧡 Welcoming Week is coming to the Kaimukī-Waiʻalae Y!

Welcoming Week is about celebrating the people, cultures, and experiences that make our community stronger. Whether you've been part of the Y for years or you're walking through our doors for the first time, you belong here.

And we mean everyone! All members of our community are welcome to participate in our scheduled Welcoming Week activities — no Y membership required. Simply stop by our Welcome Center and check in as a visitor before joining the fun. 🧡💚

We have special activities planned throughout Welcoming Week, and September is also a great time to become part of the Y community!

🎉 September Membership Special:
Your first month is FREE + we'll waive the $99 joiner fee!

Membership includes 350+ classes every week, heated pools, fitness centers, pickleball, and free Child Watch with Family Memberships.

🚗 Tandem Parking is now available at the Kaimukī-Waiʻalae Y!

To help make the most of our available parking during busy times, members can use our tandem parking area in the upper lot beside the basketball court. The area provides 6 rows of 3 vehicles for additional parking.

A few reminders when using tandem parking:

🔸 Complete a Tandem Parking Slip at the Welcome Center each time you park so our team can reach you if your vehicle needs to be moved.
🔸 Keep your phone accessible while you're at the Y.
🔸 Park close to the vehicle in front of you and stay within your row.
🔸 Please park toward the back fence whenever possible, especially if you'll be staying for an extended period.
🔸 Never block drive aisles, gates, pedestrian pathways, emergency access, or accessible parking areas.

This week, we’re celebrating the personal trainers and group exercise instructors who bring energy, encouragement, and connection to our Y every day.

We asked our members to share what our instructors mean to them — because the impact goes far beyond the workout.

You’ve helped turn classes into connections, sessions into relationships, and those relationships into community.

Thank you to our Personal Trainers & Group Exercise Instructors for showing up, motivating us, and helping make the Y a place where people feel supported, connected, and stronger together.

Last week, our Kūpuna challenged Y staff to some friendly competition with trivia, table games, and plenty of laughs along the way!

At the Y, moments like these are about more than just games—they’re about connection, belonging, and creating opportunities for generations to come together. Our Kūpuna bring so much energy, wisdom, and aloha to our community, and we’re grateful for every chance to learn from them, laugh with them, and build stronger relationships.

Because of you, we’re stronger. 💙🌺

Today, our staff wanted to share a simple message with the people who give so much to our Y: thank you.

Our volunteers bring their time, talents, energy, and aloha to the Kaimuki-Waialae YMCA—helping create a place where people feel welcomed, connected, and part of something bigger.

During Q2 alone, 24 volunteers contributed 455 hours of service, but the true impact is in the relationships built and the community strengthened along the way.

To our entire volunteer ʻohana: we see you, we appreciate you, and we’re grateful for you. Mahalo for all that you do! 💙
