What you might not notice…

A child waiting patiently.
A child helping a friend.
A child cleaning up a spill.
A child trying again after making a mistake.
A child returning work to its place.

These small moments may seem ordinary, but they are where important life skills are developed.

From our Two-Year-Old Program through Elementary, children are building independence, responsibility, concentration, persistence, and a sense of community every day.

Sometimes the biggest lessons are found in the smallest moments.

In Montessori, children are given freedom to make choices, explore their interests and work at their own pace. But freedom does not mean a lack of guidance.

Through careful observation and meaningful lessons, teachers help children connect with work that sparks their interest and supports their growth. As children experience success through their own effort, they build confidence, develop perseverance and become eager to take on new challenges.

Following the child means helping them discover what they are capable of and inspiring a lifelong love of learning.

What would Maria Montessori notice if she walked through our school today?

Perhaps the concentration of a child deeply engaged in their work. The independence that grows when children are trusted. A community where children learn from and care for one another. Respect—for themselves, others, and their environment. And, of course, joy.

Today, as we celebrate Maria Montessori’s birthday, our students are also learning about the woman behind the philosophy—her life, her observations, and the discoveries that continue to inspire generations of children and educators around the world.

There’s something beautiful about the beginning of a Montessori school year.

While some children are entering the classroom for the first time, others are returning to a place they know and love.

In our multi-age classrooms, older children become role models and guides for new students—showing them the routines, the environment, and what it means to be part of the community.

It’s a beautiful cycle: children who once needed guidance grow into the leaders who offer it to someone new.

Because in Montessori, children don’t just learn alongside one another. They learn from one another.

There’s something special about the moment an empty school becomes a school again.

The quiet classrooms, empty hallways, and still playgrounds didn’t stay that way for long. With the return of our students and teachers, our carefully prepared environments are once again filled with curiosity, connection, laughter, and learning.

And just like that… we’re off!

Today’s classroom was the beautiful Papahana Kuaola! 🌿💚 Our Elementary students had an unforgettable morning learning what it means to mālama ʻāina through hands-on experiences. They cleared fallen kukui leaves, cared for the loʻi, and helped protect our waterways by catching invasive fish in the stream. Upon returning to school, the students wrote about their favorite moments in their reflection journals.

Mahalo Papahana Kuaola! We are so grateful for opportunities that connect our students to the land, Hawaiian culture, and the importance of being good stewards of our environment.

Art and ocean exploration came together in the most beautiful way this summer!

Our Elementary students transformed their study of marine life into stunning 3D mobile sculptures inspired by fish, sharks, manta rays, nautiluses, and more. They created vibrant watercolor paintings, designed and cut out their own sea creatures, and crafted seaweed and nautilus shells using newspaper, tape, pipe cleaners, and wire before assembling everything into hanging mobile sculptures.

Seeing each child’s excitement as their creations came to life—and as they admired one another’s work—was truly special. Through this hands-on project, students blended creativity, problem-solving, and artistic expression while deepening their appreciation for the wonders of the ocean.

Our preschoolers discovered that plants can be full of surprises! Using ʻōlena (turmeric), a plant that has long been valued in Hawaiian culture, children created “magic paintings” that revealed hidden designs through a colorful science reaction.

This hands-on activity encouraged observation, creativity, and curiosity while helping children explore how plants have supported the people of Hawaiʻi for generations. Through art, science, and cultural connections, we continue discovering how plants help meet our fundamental human needs.
