The best way to learn is to experience! This month, our curriculum came to life as our local librarians visited The Cole Academy's Downtown campus to bring the magic of the library to our ohana of keiki.

To bridge our classroom studies of community workers with real world experiences, we welcomed our neighborhood librarians right onto our campus. This helped turn our studies about community helpers into an interactive and engaging celebration of early literacy.

Seeing the joy and curiosity on the children's faces as they explored books and learned about library cards reminding everyone that library cards are free is exactly why we love what we do! We are so thankful for our community libraries and the wonderful workers who spark a lifelong love of reading. 📚✨

OPEN WEDNESDAY 9/9: All locations are reopening on Wednesday, following the hurricane-related closures on Tuesday 9/8. We look forward to welcoming the keiki back to school.

STORM CLOSURE 9/8: Cole Academy campuses on Oahu and the Big Island are closed Tuesday, September 8, 2026, due to Hurricane Lowell storm impacts. We anticipate reopening Wednesday, September 9, and will post an update by 2pm Tuesday.

Bringing Learning to Life: Library Adventures at The Cole Academy! 📚✨

Preschool and JrK keiki from our Kapolei campus enjoyed a wonderful walking field trip to the Kapolei Library. Our students loved gathering for a special storytime with the amazing librarians, followed by exploring books in small groups.

Fostering a love for reading early on builds a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning and imagination. Throughout September, our curriculum focuses on community helpers, and we are so thankful for the dedicated librarians who welcome our ohana and share their passion for literacy with our students.

**OPEN Tuesday 8/18/26: All campuses of The Cole Academy will re-open Tuesday, following the storm recovery closure on Monday 8/17/26**

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we closed so staff and families could navigate storm damage and clean-ups.

All Oahu campus locations will reopen at their normal times Tuesday, August 18th, 2026. Our campuses have full power and we mitigated all storm impacts during Monday's closure. Our Hawaii Island school is still facing power issues along with the rest of the community but school services will be operable.

We hope everyone is staying safe and we look forward to seeing you on campus.

*CLOSED MONDAY, AUG. 17* Due to statewide impacts from Hurricane & Tropical Storm Lala, all Oahu and Big Island campuses of The Cole Academy campuses will be closed tomorrow, Monday, August 17th, 2026. We wanted to give you as much additional time as possible to plan your Monday schedules around the storm impacts. (Updated as of 6pm Sunday: The DOE also announced closure of all public schools statewide for Monday.)

Check-ins this morning regarding staff, family, utility, and community impacts yielded reports of widespread damage and disruption from localized impacts such as downed trees, blocked roads, and other damage that could affect school operations, family/staff living situations, and commutes.

Because the storm is still active through Sunday, this proactive Monday closure will allow all ohana including families and staff to safely assess damage, clean up around their homes and businesses, ensure that downed trees are cleared, power is reliably on, water is operable, and all staff can commute for a safe school day's operation.

We continue to monitor official guidance as well as any neighborhood and community-specific impact. We currently anticipate returning to our normal schedules on Tuesday, August 18th and will email everyone again on Monday by noon to confirm.
