Students from Chaminade University’s EID 370 design course collaborated with teachers at Wai’alae to rethink learning spaces with UDL (Universal Design for Learning) principles at the forefront. These passionate students spent the Spring semester creating proposals for 5 learning spaces to meet the diverse needs of our students and teachers. The Chaminade students then presented their ideas to faculty and staff members, complete with design boards and pamphlets.
This kind of authentic learning and assessment demonstrated by Chaminade students is at the core of what we do at Wai’alae School - preparing our students to be college, career, and life ready!
We look forward to more opportunities to partner with community organizations in our neighborhood!

Ua ‘ike au. I saw it. I know it.
At Wai’alae School we believe in the power of knowledge through experience. We know that when students have opportunities to connect deeply with what their learning in authentic contexts, it becomes part of who they are.
After presenting mele and hula in Kīlauea ‘Iki Crater, students were asked for one word to describe their experience. Here are a few that they shared: Joyful. Inspiring. Connection. Beautiful. Powerful. Special.
