Our team primarily competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition, a competition self-described as “A Unique Varsity Sport for the Mind™ designed to help high-school-aged young people discover how interesting and rewarding the lives of engineers and scientists can be”. The MechaMonarchs have been active since 2007, when we participated in the Hawaii Underwater Robot Challenge. We then joined the FIRST Robotics Competition in 2008 during the second Hawaii Regional and have a total of 4 FRC seasons under our belts! In the 2012-2013 season, we took a total of 58 team members, including 10 female members, who were the first to ever participate with the team in the history of our school. This was our largest team ever, with it expanding more every year. In addition to our high school team members, we mentor 4-5 middle school students every year. As unofficial members of the team, they help assist in various team functions while gaining valuable experience before entering the world of FRC. Hopefully, we will gain a FIRST Lego League that they will be able to complete in soon. The team continues to work hard and compete every season. We can’t wait for the next competition and wish everyone the best of luck!
