College Opportunities Program (COP) at UH Mānoa

ed to live on-campus and enroll in classes focused on upgrading academic and social skills. Room, board, textbooks, and instructional expenses are covered by COP. Participants who successfully complete the COP program requirements are admitted to the UHM in the fall semester and advance to COP‟s First-Year Academic Program. During the First-Year Academic Program, students are required to live in an on-campus residence hall. Students enroll in classes on a full-time basis and attend group meetings and individual appointments with COP advisors. “One-stop advising” is available at the COP office on issues related to registration, career planning and exploration, financial aid, on-campus employment, and other concerns. The COP office also serves as a “home base” on campus where students can do their homework, use computers, meet friends, or just hang out. During the First-Year Academic Program students are fully responsible for their college-related expenses. APPLICATION DEADLINE: DECEMBER 5, 2017

WHO CAN APPLY? Individuals who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:
1. A bona fide Hawai'i resident and U.S. citizen, national, or person holding a permanent visa. To see if you meet this requirement, go online tohttp://hawaii.edu/admissions/sysapp12.pdf and complete the Residency Declaration form on page 2.
2. Possess a high school cumulative GPA (all institutions attended) of at least a 2.00 as of December 5, 2017.
3. Earn a high school diploma by June 6, 2018, which is the last day of graduation exercises for the State of Hawaii Department of Education‟s Public and Charter Schools.
4. Earned no more than 12 college credits above the 100-level and hold a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 as of December 5, 2017. Everyone is encouraged to apply; however, primary consideration will be given to applicants who meet the following criteria:
1. Lack the required high school coursework, standardized test scores, grade point average and high school rank as required by the UHM Admissions Office. For more information, go online to

3. First person in family to attend college.
4. Represent a positive role model to communities underrepresented at the UHM. HOW TO APPLY
The documents listed below must be received by the COP office, in one (1) Application Packet, no later than 4:00 P.M. Applications that do not comply with the deadline requirements will not be considered. COP will not accept any application, or part thereof, which is sent by email or facsimile.
1. A completed and signed COP Application Form, which may be downloaded from the COP website (www.hawaii.edu/cop). A completed application shall also include a Personal Essay and two (2) COP Recommendation Forms with one to be completed by a high school college preparatory class teacher and the other by a high school grade level or college/career counselor.
2. An official high school transcript with 1st quarter senior grades. If applicable, submit SAT/ACT scores and all college transcripts.
3. A signed copy of your parent‟s/guardian‟s 2016 U.S. Federal Income Tax Return (Form 1040 – submit first page through signature page only).
