Congratulations to Lexi Berganio ’21, producer and co-writer of East Did Meet West, a short film featured in the FilAm Frames category at the 2025 Hawaiʻi International Film Festival! 🎬✨
Inspired by the landmark 1930s court case Roldan v. L.A. County, Lexi’s film explores the story of a Filipino immigrant and an English immigrant fighting for their right to marry despite anti-miscegenation laws. Created as her senior thesis at Chapman University, the project also features original music by Logyn Okuda ’22.
Earlier this year, Lexi earned national recognition as the winner of the Coca-Cola Refreshing Films competition—selected from more than 600 applicants!
