Our students are part of the solution. 🌺
Hawaii Medical College is proud to be featured in this week’s Pacific Business News cover story, “The Race to Fill Healthcare,” examining how schools, employers and community partners are responding to Hawaii’s healthcare workforce shortage.
PBN reports that approximately 4,700 non-physician healthcare positions in Hawaii are currently unfilled.
At HMC, we are helping shorten the distance between education and employment through career-focused instruction, hands-on training and externship opportunities.
As I shared with PBN:
“They want to be employable. They want a job when they graduate.”
Every student who gains the skills, experience and confidence to begin a healthcare career brings Hawaii one step closer to a stronger healthcare workforce.
Mahalo to Cathy Cruz-George and Pacific Business News for highlighting this important issue, and to our students, faculty, staff and employer partners who make this work possible.

Sometimes we’re asking the wrong question.
Last week, I had the opportunity to visit one of our employer partners, Physicians Billing Solutions, LLC, and reconnect with Jordan, the manager, and Ariana, one of Hawaii Medical College’s graduates.
Seeing Ariana thriving in her career reminded me that education is about so much more than earning a certificate.
It’s about creating opportunities.
It’s about building confidence.
It’s about providing for your family.
It’s about making a difference in the lives of others.
A certificate may open the door, but what comes next is what truly matters.
That’s why we believe education should be measured not only by what students learn, but by what they’re able to become because of it.
Ariana’s journey is a wonderful reminder of what’s possible when education leads to opportunity.
What do you think is the best measure of a college’s success?
💙 Congratulations, Ariana! We’re proud to be part of your journey.

🤝 Great healthcare professionals aren’t just taught in the classroom—they’re mentored in the real world.
Today, our Hawaii Medical College team had the privilege of visiting The Queen’s Health System to personally thank the incredible managers, supervisors, and healthcare professionals who mentor our students during their externships.
These experiences are where confidence grows, skills are refined, and classroom learning becomes real patient care.
We are so grateful to The Queen’s Health System and Queen’s University Medical Group for investing in our students and helping prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals for Hawaii.
Strong partnerships don’t just create successful students—they strengthen our entire healthcare community. ❤️
Mahalo for believing in our students and being such an important part of their journey.

🌺 Today is a day to celebrate!
We’re incredibly honored that Hawaii Medical College has been recognized by USA TODAY as one of America’s Top Vocational Schools for 2026.
Even more humbling, we’re the only school in Hawaii included in this year’s recognition.
But this isn’t our award.
It belongs to every student who believed in themselves.
Every graduate who never gave up.
Every instructor who inspired.
Every staff member who cared.
And every healthcare partner who opened their doors to mentor the next generation of healthcare professionals.
We’re proud of this recognition because it reflects something we’ve believed from the very beginning:
Education changes lives.
Mahalo to our students, alumni, faculty, staff, employer partners, and our Hawaii community for trusting us to be part of your journey.
Here’s to celebrating this milestone—and to creating many more success stories together. ❤️
