Its hard to see the big picture as parents when we work to teach our kids things. It tends to be a constant struggle in our minds when we are constantly asking ourselves the question "Is my child leaning anything from this". Repetition in learning is important and it only becomes obvious after looking back months or years.

I had a question brought up to me about the dangers of water in a baby's ears by a good friend and life long Aquatics athlete Julie Gautsche who had a little baby this past year as well.
The first thing that surprised me about the question was how she was just a nervous about this new parent stuff as I was.
This is a lady who spent her childhood in club swimming and club water polo and went on to play college polo. One of the best coaches I know and most knowledgeable people I know when it comes to anything water so it was really surprising that she was nervous about her child as well. I thought this would be a great idea to start a thread of experience from all you mommies and daddies out there so that other young parents have a resource they can go to. Please contribute if you have thoughts on this topic. Here is a really good base article that I found that helped me answer some of those questions.

'“Drowning is the single leading cause of injury-related death among children ages 1 to 4,” said Sarah Denny, MD, FAAP, lead author of the policy statement, “Prevention of Drowning” published online March 15, 2019, in Pediatrics. “Many of these deaths occur when children are not expected to be swimming or when they have unanticipated access to water. Toddlers are naturally curious; that’s why we must implement other strategies, such as pool fencing and door locks.”' -American Academy of Pediatrics
