🌺🔬 Understanding environmental exposures can help protect our future generations.

A new article highlights Thompson School faculty member Dr. Jonathan Huang, who is leading an NIH-funded project examining how PFAS exposure may affect placental function and child development. This work will bring new insight into how environmental factors can shape the health and development of children.💚

UH Mānoa Social Work connection from American Samoa in Honolulu! 🌺

We were so happy to see UH Mānoa Social Work alum and Adjunct Faculty Dr. Julia Foifua, MSW, connecting with incoming MSW student Liliatupu Asotau, who is beginning her MSW pathway through the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa while continuing to live and work in American Samoa.

Moments like this remind us of the importance of building connections across generations of social workers and strengthening opportunities for social work education throughout the Pacific. We are excited to welcome Liliatupu to the UH Mānoa Social Work ʻfamily and grateful to alumni like Dr. Foifua who continue to support and inspire the next generation of social workers!

Thompson School ‘Bows showing up and showing out! 🌈🚶‍♂️

On June 27th, Thompson School faculty, staff, and students came together to participate in the 35th Honolulu AIDS Walk hosted by the Hawai’i Health & Harm Reduction Center.

Leading up to the walk, the Thompson School ‘Bows team raised $1,000 through a fundraising campaign. Mahalo to everyone who walked, donated, cheered us on, and helped make a difference!

📢 The ASWB Social Work Licensing Exams have changed!

As of August 3, 2026, all ASWB licensing exams are now based on the 2026 Exam Blueprint.

Here’s what you need to know:
✔️ 3 content areas instead of 4
✔️ 122 total questions (110 scored + 12 unscored)
✔️ More three-option multiple-choice questions
✔️ Greater emphasis on applying social work knowledge, ethical decision-making, and professional reasoning—not just memorization
✔️ The 4-hour testing time remains the same
