We believe learning is not only about what students know. It’s about discovering who they are becoming.

At the beginning of the school year, our upper school students created self-portraits, not simply to capture what they look like but to reflect on who they are and what matters to them.

This year, these portraits will become the covers of each student’s learning portfolio- a live collection that documents learning, growth, goals, reflections, and accomplishments throughout the year.

For us, the portrait is a starting point and the portfolio tells the story of what comes next.

Thank you students and families for creating Live Oak’s story with us!

In our Early Childhood classroom, gardening is so much more than planting a seed. It’s an invitation to slow down, wonder, observe, and care.

As our preschool and kindergarten children dig in the soil, nurture seedlings, notice tiny changes, and harvest what they have grown, they are building connections to the natural world while developing patience, responsibility, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of where our food comes from.

In line with our Reggio-inspired approach, we see children as capable, curious researchers and nature as one of their most powerful teachers.

Sometimes the most meaningful learning begins with two little hands (and feet!) in the soil.

Live Oak Academy is currently enrolling! If you’re looking for a Reggio-inspired learning environment where children are encouraged to explore, wonder, and grow, we’d love to connect with your family.

At Live Oak Academy, we believe that connecting with local businesses, history, and the natural world around us gives our students the opportunity to take what they’re learning in the classroom and apply it to the real world!

And these adventures wouldn’t be possible without our shuttle bus, which just enjoyed a few spa days of its own!

A huge THANK YOU to Hilton Head Island Boat Rentals, K&M Tire, Island Tire and Automotive, and Advanced Automotive and Towing for helping get our shuttle into tip-top shape! From making it shine inside and out, to outfitting it with brand-new tires, to making sure everything under the hood is running smoothly, you all went above and beyond to take care of us.

Because of your generosity and support, our students can continue exploring, discovering, and connecting with the world around them. We are so grateful for the businesses that invest in our students and help make experiences like these possible!

Thank you for being part of the Live Oak community!

Beautiful Oops! 🎨🖌️

Kindergarten and elementary students practiced finding the beauty in mistakes during studio today! After reading “Beautiful Oops!” their teacher “accidentally” ripped a paper, spilled some paint, dropped markers, and made cuts in the paper and the students turned them into creatures, rockets, nature, people, and more!

School is so much better with our students here!

We are officially in our second week of the school year, and so far our students are settling into their routines, building community, and learning what it means to grow together. We’re already seeing so much curiosity, creativity, connection, and excitement throughout our school.

Here’s to an incredible year of learning, growing, and making memories together. We’re gearing up for our best school year yet!

It’s the night before school starts and our classrooms are ready with excitement in the air!

Our teachers have been busy putting the finishing touches on thoughtful learning spaces and creating invitations for discovery.

We’ve missed the laughter, the questions, and the energy our students bring to campus and we can’t wait to welcome students and families back!

Here’s to a new year filled with meaningful relationships, big questions, messy discoveries, and all the little moments that make learning so joyful here.

We are excited to share that our Executive Director, Tiffany Fish, is a part of the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program’s Class of 2027!

Over the next several months, Tiffany will have the opportunity to learn from community leaders, explore the many facets of Southern Beaufort County, participate in service opportunities, collaborate on a community project, and build relationships with a network of leaders who are committed to making a difference in our community.

Tiffany joined this program because she is a firm believer that if you aren’t moving forward as a learner, you’re moving backward as a leader. She is committed to continuing to grow, learn, and listen so that she can serve Live Oak Academy and our community to the very best of her ability.

We are excited to follow along as Tiffany learns, grows, and contributes alongside the incredible Class of 2027!

Please join us in welcoming back a familiar face to Live Oak Academy. Deiha Torin will continue serving as our Early Childhood Director, bringing more than 30 years of experience working alongside young children and their families to our school community.

Deiha’s passion for early childhood education began in high school, when she took every child development and family life science course available to her and spent her senior year working in a transitional kindergarten classroom. That early experience confirmed her desire to spend her career helping children learn, grow, wonder, and discover who they are.

Throughout her career, Deiha has developed a deep belief that children are not meant to fit into a one-size-fits-all model of education. She sees children as curious, capable, and creative individuals who deserve to be seen, heard, respected, and challenged.

Her experience as both an educator and a parent has shaped this philosophy. As the parent of a special needs adult daughter, Deiha has advocated throughout her daughter’s educational journey, giving her a deeper understanding of the importance of truly seeing each child as an individual and recognizing the unique needs of children and families.

These experiences have led Deiha to believe that every child deserves a safe and welcoming environment where they can be fully themselves while also being encouraged to grow. At Live Oak Academy, she values the small class sizes, hands-on learning, inquiry and project-based experiences, multi-aged learning, time in nature, and emphasis on wonder and connection that make our school unique.

Deiha is especially passionate about the partnership between school and home. She believes parents know their children better than anyone and that open communication and collaboration between educators and families are essential to supporting children throughout their educational journey.

At the heart of Deiha’s work is a simple belief: every child should know that they belong, their ideas matter, they are capable, they are valued, and someone believes in them.

When she’s not at school, Deiha enjoys gardening, exploring the Lowcountry, spending time with friends and family, trying new foods, and enjoying the beauty of life near the beach.

We are grateful to have Deiha’s experience, passion, and heart for children as part of the Live Oak Academy community. We’re excited to see all that she will continue to bring to our youngest learners and their families!
