We hope all of our First Presbyterian Day School families enjoyed a wonderful holiday break. We wish a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to our Day School families and to our church family at First Presbyterian Church Hilton Head Island, SC

We are excited to welcome the children back tomorrow. Today, our teachers are preparing classrooms, refreshing materials, and thoughtfully setting up learning environments as we begin the new year together.

In addition, our staff participated in a safety training led by Master Sergeant Robert Herlong. We take the responsibility of providing a safe and secure environment very seriously and remain committed to ongoing preparation and professional development to support the well-being of our school community.

We are also sharing our Day School Christmas video created by the children and teachers. We hope you enjoy this special glimpse into the season as much as we did.

We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus tomorrow!

As we head into Thanksgiving break, our hearts are overflowing. 💛
Today, our halls were filled with tiny voices singing the blessing before lunch, little hands folded, little hearts wide open. It was a gentle reminder of how much there is to be grateful for.

We are thankful for our children, who lead us daily with curiosity, joy, and wonder.
We are thankful for our families, who partner with us and trust us with their most precious gifts.
We are thankful for our incredible staff, whose dedication, compassion, and creativity make this community feel like family.
And we are thankful for First Presbyterian Church, who remains a steady and loving part of our Day School family, continuing to support our mission to serve the working families of Hilton Head Island.

May your week be filled with rest, connection, laughter, and love.
Happy Thanksgiving, Day School family, we are so grateful for you. 🧡

Sea Stars in the Studio
This morning the Sea Star class worked in pairs to explore clay. Children practiced preparing their workspace with intention, then began noticing how the clay responded to their hands-pressing with palms, fists, knuckles, and even elbows. They experimented with forming coils, slabs, and balls, discovering how each shape changed depending on how they touched, rolled, or dropped the clay.

As they worked, many children observed unexpected moments: how clay sticks when it’s thrown, how it smooths when rolled, and how it can be reshaped again and again. When finished, they carefully re-formed their clay into one ball, covered it for the next friend, and followed our rinsing routine to care for our tools and environment.

A morning full of attention, collaboration, and thoughtful exploration.

What a Night!
The Spaghetti Dinner was a huge success, truly our best one yet! We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.

A big thank you to our amazing PAC for all the planning and preparation that went into this event, and to all the dads in the kitchen who worked so hard behind the scenes to make sure everything ran smoothly (and tasted delicious!).

We’re also incredibly thankful for all the volunteers who helped with set-up, serving, and clean-up-- your time and energy made the evening possible.

A special thank you to the First Presbyterian Church Hilton Head Island, SC for once again going above and beyond. Your generosity in allowing us to use your beautiful gathering space and helping with tables, set-up, and tear-down did not go unnoticed.

And to our Day School families, staff and the church members who attended, supported, and gave so graciously, thank you! This dinner means so much to our school and directly supports our mission to continue growing, nurturing, and creating joyful learning experiences for the young children in our community.
We couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you.

A peek into some morning moments at the Day School today…

Our Rising Kindergarteners strapped on their seatbelts to attend the annual Safety Town event hosted by Rotary Club. The children received the opportunity to connect directly with their surrounding community, and the community showed up big time. We treasure these learning journeys very much, and FPDS is thankful for the community that serves us every day.

The Loggerheads took a stroll around the Church grounds to find elements of nature and hints of a changing environment. What they found? Pinecones, changing leaves, acorns, worms, rocks, ant hills, twigs, and more. When their search was complete, paper and pens were available for them to mark their impressions of their observations. What a wonderful Autumn Day at the Day School!

Background: Over the last few weeks, the children have been collecting acorns and small, yellow or orange leaves at the outdoor classroom, and bringing them inside to share during morning meetings. The Educators have been adding elements of the surrounding environment and changes it brings during this season to stimulate thoughts, conversation, and exploration.
