Asparagus is the for May. Did you know that the part of asparagus that we eat is called the shoot? Asparagus is also a good source of vitamins A, C, E, K, potassium, and fiber.

This past weekend during our annual School Nutrition Association of Virginia state conference, 3 teams representing school districts from across Virginia competed in a inspired thanks to Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative Virginia Beef Council Beef. It's What's For Dinner.!🔪🥩👩‍🍳🧑‍🍳👨‍🍳

In this 1st annual event, competitors raced against the clock to prepare tasty and visually appealing K-12 school nutrition compliant recipes featuring beef for the judges.⏰

In a mere 25 minutes, participants cheffed up an Asian fusion rice dish, nachos, and a restaurant quality burger! They were also put to the test when asked to add a surprise ingredient to their dishes in the middle of the challenge: grape jelly!🍇

Congratulations to Team 2 on your win and special thanks to 2 of our very own managers, Shiho Adams (Kecoughtan High School & Francis Asbury Elementary) and Lyle de la Cruz (Thomas Eaton Middle)!🎉🎊

Our School Nutrition Association of Virginia chapter's BBQ Dinner & Bingo event on Friday was a hit! We also raffled off some awesome baskets that food service staff from a few of our schools put together.
