Attention Class of 2020!
We are determined to continue our progressive graduation events and celebrate our seniors. Unfortunately, last week’s weather prohibited us from using the original dates for our Commemorative Photo Session. Based on the remainder of this week’s forecast to include thunderstorms, we will need to reschedule the photo session once again.
If you were scheduled to take your photo this Wednesday, May 27, you have been rescheduled to take it at the same time next Monday, June 1. If you were scheduled to take your photo this Thursday, May 28, you have been rescheduled to take it at the same time on Tuesday, June 2. If you were scheduled to take your photo on Friday, May 29, you have been rescheduled to take it at the same time on Wednesday, June 3.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our seniors and their families. Please note that if there is inclement weather next week during our second rain date, the event will be held rain or shine. If needed, large event tents will be brought in so we can move forward with the photos on June 1, 2, and 3.

The Class of 2020 Graduation Progressive Events:
We are determined that this health crisis will not take away from the Class of 2020 and that our graduates and their families will receive a well-deserved and memorable celebratory experience.
We have been closely following information from the Governor’s office. Currently the Governor’s stay-at-home order ends on June 10. However, the Governor has publicly stated that there will be a gradual reopening of our state once the order ends.
Knowing our graduations at the Coliseum typically bring thousands of people together from our graduates, to our guests, to even the number of individuals from our staff, the Coliseum staff, the Hampton Police Division, and others that are required to run a safe event, the traditional in-person graduation ceremony has been transformed into several celebratory events.
These Progressive Commencement events will begin on May 18 and will run through the week of June 7. Our celebrations will include a cap and gown celebration, a commemorative photo session, a Live Virtual Graduation Ceremony, a processional “walk” with a Class of 2020 Decorated Vehicle Procession, and much more.
All of this information, including specific dates and details is located on our new HCS graduation website - http://www.hampton.k12.va.us/2020grad/2020.html.
We are so proud of the accomplishments of each graduate. We look forward to celebrating each of you!

KAINE ANNOUNCES ‘EVERYBODY’S THE GRADUATION SPEAKER’ VIDEO CONTEST FOR VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine launched the “Everybody’s the Graduation Speaker” video contest. Kaine is encouraging Virginia’s graduating high school seniors to submit a video of an original speech they would like to give at graduation. Kaine will select speeches to feature on his page and website during May and June to celebrate the graduates.
“One of the many groups of Virginians I’ve been thinking about during this challenging time is the graduates of the Class of 2020, many of whom won’t have the graduation experience they’ve been planning for a long time. I feel a sense of loss about that, so I want to do something fun for them and give all high school seniors the chance to be a graduation speaker. I look forward to hearing the wisdom Virginia’s future leaders have to offer and sharing their inspiration with others. Let’s show Virginia what the Class of 2020 is all about,” Kaine said.
Kaine is encouraging students to film videos of speeches that are 10 minutes or less and submit them to [email protected] by May 15.
