It was another exciting day as we countdown to summer by showcasing the real world connections each grade level has made through the HCS Signature Experience.

Today we had not one, but TWO spectacular events!

This post features our first graders who presented their “how to” projects. From “how to make sparkling pineapple lemonade,” to “how to do the perfect push-up,” to “how to tie your shoes,” our students chose something they were good at and taught it to others. We even had a family bring in a bicycle so their student could show her classmates how she taught herself how to ride a bike!

We are so proud of the hard work and expertise they displayed through these projects, with the support of their families and dedicated teachers Ms. Byers, Ms. Jackson, and Ms. Speller!

Under the theme “Planting Promises,” our 4th grade students proudly completed their Signature Experience community garden project.

Throughout this project, our young pandas explored how an outdoor classroom and community garden can support learning across grade levels, connect to science standards, and benefit our school community. Students researched, created presentation boards, planted in the garden, created a song and dance routine, and shared how this space can help others learn, grow, and work together.

After families and other special guests left, each fourth grader had the opportunity to work with master gardeners from The Virginia Cooperative Extension based out of Bluebird Gap Farm.

This year long experience was facilitated by Ms. Forgacs, signature experience lead, and teammates Ms. Hinton, Ms. Parker, and Ms. Young.

We are excited for our new partnership with Virginia Cooperative Extension - Hampton Master Gardeners, and are looking forward to expanding on this project next year!

We are excited to announce the addition of our new Community Library outside of the school!

Families are invited to “take a book, leave a book” and enjoy sharing the love of reading with our school community all summer long. Students and families are welcome to borrow a book to read at home or donate gently used children’s books for others to enjoy.

We hope this new community space encourages reading, sharing, and connection throughout the year. Be sure to stop by and check it out on your next visit to school!

What a lovely evening to go to the gallery!

It was exciting to see pieces from Excel Art students, Audrey J and London E on display at the Hampton City Schools administrative center!

The pandas are so proud of these talented students, and the dedication of their art teacher, Mrs. Cunnikin 💚

There she goes again! Mrs. Lauren Wilson was recognized at tonight’s school board meeting for completing the HCS Teacher Leadership program 🥳

Mrs. Wilson leads by example within our building and beyond 💫 her clsssroom serves not only as a learning space for children but for other HCS educators as well.

She is a problem solver, collaborative teammate, and positive mentor. Congratulations, again, Mrs. Wilson!

Master Plan 2.0 meets Bassette reverse career fair 2.0!

This year’s fifth graders really stepped up their game in preparing for and presenting what career they see their future self in. If confidence, creativity, and big dreams are any indication, the future is in VERY good hands!

We’re so proud of the hard work, preparation, and personality each student brought to the table.

Stay safe and dry tomorrow, Pandas!

Hampton City Schools Weather Update:

Due to the potential for severe weather, Hampton City Schools will be CLOSED for all students and staff tomorrow, Monday, March 16, 2026.

Students will not participate in remote learning and staff will not participate in a remote work day. Instead, the division will use a banked instructional day that is already built into the school calendar.

The National Weather Service has issued a substantial risk of severe weather on Monday to include the possibility of multiple rounds of storms with the potential for widespread damaging winds, strong tornadoes, and large hail. Precise timing remains a bit uncertain but the current forecast calls for storms to begin late morning through the evening with the threat for significant severe weather continuing to increase.

These conditions could lead to power outages and hazardous travel, making it unsafe for school buses to operate — even with an early dismissal.

All school buildings and offices will be closed. Essential personnel will be contacted by their supervisors as needed. Full time employees will be paid for this day. Part-time employees will have the opportunity to make up the missed hours. If you have any questions, please contact your immediate supervisor.

All after-school activities, athletics, and evening events scheduled for Monday are also canceled.

We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and community.
