What a fantastic afternoon at our first FIRST LEGO League Summer Meet-Up!

It was so much fun to see Discovery students choosing to spend part of their summer learning, creating, and working together. We loved welcoming both new and returning students as they explored this year's FIRST LEGO League theme, Biodiversity.

Students challenged themselves with teamwork activities, built their first robots, and even started learning how to program them. Most importantly, they asked great questions, solved problems together, and weren't afraid to try something new.

Seeing so many students excited to learn, collaborate, and challenge themselves—even during summer break—is something worth celebrating. We are so proud of their curiosity, perseverance, and enthusiasm, and we can't wait to see where this season takes them!

Also check out the attached LEGO BioGlow Choice Board full of fun building challenges for all students to explore at home. Build away, Explorers! Mrs. Massimino would love to see your creations, so be sure to send her photos of your finished designs!

Invent, Design, Play: 3rd Grade STEAM
Our 3rd graders wrapped up the year by becoming math game designers!

As a final STEAM project, students combined creativity, problem-solving, and mathematical thinking to design and create their own board games focused on practicing multiplication facts. They carefully planned game rules, designed engaging game boards, and thought about how to make learning both fun and challenging.

To bring their ideas to life, students used Tinkercad to design custom 3D-printed dice and game tokens, adding a unique touch to each game. Once their creations were complete, they had the chance to play one another's games and see their designs in action.

From inventing and designing to testing and playing, this project showcased the incredible creativity, perseverance, and innovation of our 3rd graders. What a fun way to celebrate a year of learning in STEAM!

As an end-of-year STEAM tradition, our students took part in our Wind-Powered Regatta!

Every student K-5 put their engineering skills to the test as they designed, built, tested, and iterated their own wind-powered boats during their final STEAM class of the school year. Through creativity, problem-solving, and perseverance, they discovered that the first design isn't always the best design—and that's where the real learning happens!

There was plenty of excitement, friendly competition, and cheering as students watched their creations race across the water. What a fun way to celebrate a year filled with innovation, collaboration, and hands-on learning in STEAM!

Way to go, Discovery engineers!
