PenMet Parks had a chance to get a tour the new playground at Voyager Elementary School today led by students! The PenMet Park Board of Commissioners awarded $15,000 in grant funding and a legislative appropriation of $5,000 to support this project. Community volunteers like Kendalyn Harris, Voyager Elementary PTA President (past), led the project from inception to completion (2019 - 2022).
Wow! Over 1,000 items (including 200 Teddy Bears and 395 pounds of food!) from Voyager Elementary as part of their Giving Tree project. We are impressed with your generosity and enthusiasm. Thank you!
During Classified Staff Recognition Week, we're recognizing Tammi Falconer.

Tammi has worked for the Peninsula School District for approximately 19.5 years. She worked at Kopachuck Middle School and Harbor Heights Elementary, and has spent the last seven years serving as the Library Tech at Voyager Elementary.

Tammi’s day-to-day duties include maintaining the library, supporting bus drop off/pick up, doing small group work with students, providing testing support, and more.

“The most rewarding part of my job is the excitement of suggesting new reading material to students and then having them become confident in their reading,” Tammi said. “This has been a dream job, although very busy, and I feel blessed to be able to work with kids and staff.”

Tammi has adapted and learned through the current learning environment by using technology to connect with students and endeavor to keep them engaged. Tammi said, “While reading to the students on Zoom on Wednesdays, I’ve been able to also add a bit of guided art to our time that. I had a student send me their picture and stated, ‘You are the best library teacher in the whole world!’”

Excited to find out how Voyager Vikings are celebrating Read Across America week!
David Aston has been a teacher for 25 years and currently teaches PE at Voyager Elementary.

David enjoys seeing students grow in their learning from year to year. “It is so rewarding to watch their development and hard work turn them into healthy young people with a healthy respect for the essentials of health and fitness,” David said.

David appreciates the long-term relationships he builds with families and students, noting that these relationships help him connect with students and motivate them to work hard. “It’s rewarding to see the lightbulb turn on when a student’s brain clicks and a skill is finally learned. That brings such joy to kids and to me.”

David said one of the gifts of teaching during the pandemic is being able to work closely with his elementary PE teacher colleagues. “We have become a very strong team which helps us build a program for students that meets diverse needs and connections with our students. I am grateful for my team. They are quite remarkable people and we have supported each other well.”

Ready or not, here they come!!
Here’s to a fabulous first day with our kindergarten and first grade friends!!
Happy Super Hero Day!
