Updated rainfall guidance for Saturday 30th May 2026:

The passage of a Tropical Wave on Saturday is expected to bring an increase in showers and isolated thunderstorms across Trinidad and Tobago from the pre-dawn to early morning period.

Based on the latest forecast guidance, the heaviest and most concentrated rainfall activity is now expected mainly offshore and across eastern marine areas east of Trinidad, extending northward toward Barbados and the Windward Islands.

For Trinidad and Tobago, periods of light to moderate showers are still expected, especially during the morning hours, with isolated heavier showers possible across eastern and northeastern Trinidad. However, widespread heavy rainfall across the country is no longer anticipated at this time.

Some gradual improvement in weather conditions is expected from late morning into the afternoon, although a few lingering showers may still occur in some areas.

SHOWERS INCOMING FROM EARLY SATURDAY AS A MORE PRONOUNCED TROPICAL WAVE MOVES OVER THE REGION

The Tropical Wave is expected to begin affecting the islands from early Saturday morning, around dawn. Initially, the greatest concentration of rainfall is expected across eastern areas of Trinidad, before showers gradually spread into other districts as the day progresses.

Some improvement in weather conditions is anticipated by the early to mid-afternoon period. While widespread heavy rainfall is not expected, most areas are likely to experience light to moderate showers. In addition, isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible, particularly across eastern Trinidad, where the highest rainfall totals are currently anticipated.

2:20PM - BRIEF ISOLATED MID AFTERNOON SHOWERS OVER A FEW AREAS , MAINLY IN EAST TRINIDAD

Isolated shower activity mainly over parts of Eastern Trinidad following some cloudiness.

Some of this brief shower activity is also expected to move elsewhere over ISOLATED locations.

Gusty winds are likely in brief showers interrupted hazy skies due to Saharan Dust.

2:00 PM - Saharan Dust expected to persist across the Lesser Antilles throughout the week, limiting significant rainfall activity.

A moderate concentration of Saharan Dust remains present across the atmosphere over the Windward and Leeward Islands.

Forecast guidance from the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) suggests that varying concentrations of dust, ranging from mild to moderate, are likely to continue through the remainder of May.

Although a few isolated showers remain possible at times, no major or widespread rainfall events are anticipated through Friday.

Forecast models are indicating a transition toward wetter conditions by the upcoming weekend, particularly from Saturday into Sunday, when a higher chance for beneficial rainfall is expected across parts of the region.

NOTE: Persons sensitive to changes in air quality due to dust intrusions are advised to take the necessary precautions.
