Dear Friends,

To sacrifice your time on a Sunday and show up for our students is no small gesture. We respect, appreciate and acknowledge your presence or your donation for a bike(s). Thank you!
Our recent graduation not only served as a culmination of so many unforgettable activities but of a plethora of new memories that will live forever with those who attended the academy. A few of the highlights include but are not limited to:
• A collaborative relationship established with Sac State’s Music Dept that resulted in all 54 of our Kindergarteners performing at Graduation; while an additional group of those 5 year olds became picture-perfect photographers.
• As part of their Reading/Science curriculum, the 3rd graders dissected owl pellets and analyzed an animal bone chart.
• Because Martin Luther King K-8 enrolled more students than all other schools, their upper grade classes were rewarded with an opportunity to attend the Music Circus to see the musical, “Newsies”.
• The Intermediate/Middle school students from the 5, 6, 7 & 8th grade stock market class declared the 5th graders as 2018 Champions. The winning team was awarded Walmart gift cards for their selection of: Nike, Starbucks and Walmart stocks.
• With the assistance of the CSUS Music Dept. the entire academy engaged in a Q & A session with key “Newsies” Music Circus actors in the Little Theater.
• In addition to the landing of 2 helicopters, the Academy’s Annual Career Fair featured 3 more memorable stations:
1. Sac Metro Fire brought CPR mannequins so students could use their strength and practice saving lives via artificial resuscitation.
2. A captivating counselor from Fern Bacon Middle School discussed how students can navigate multiple young adult situations and how to prepare for high school and beyond.
3. Solar & STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) based jobs that demonstrated to the students that their interest in Science could turn into a successful career.
And
4. A special thanks to my own personal Primary Care Physician, Dr. Rose Jensen (UCD) who was a real hit with her white coat, stethoscope, body part models and puzzles. We can only imagine how many future doctors she may have inspired to follow in her footsteps.
We are so grateful for your confidence in us; Both as a well-wisher and as a continuing supporter, we Thank You!!!

Sincerely,
Dr. Hazel Mahone
