So grateful to be featured in this work. 💛

At the International Language Academy of Detroit, we’ve always believed that the environment is the foundation for learning—not an afterthought. Seeing this recognized on a larger level means everything, especially for our children and families right here in Detroit.

This is bigger than a classroom—it’s about investing in our community and creating spaces where children can truly thrive.

Thank you to IFF and First Children’s Finance for highlighting this important work.

What if improving child care quality started with the room itself?

In Detroit, providers like those at the International Language Academy of Detroit are part of a growing national shift—treating early learning environments as essential infrastructure, not an afterthought, through initiatives led by IFF and First Children's Finance.

See how this model is helping small, local providers make sustainable changes that could reshape early childhood spaces across the country. ⬇️

Letter recognition in action ✨

During center time, our students explored letters through hands-on and group activities - matching, identifying, and building confidence along the way. From collaborative carpet work to fine motor practice at the table, each moment supports early reading skills in a fun and meaningful way.

Learning through play, one letter at a time 💛

✨ Learning Through Choice & Play ✨

During Choice Time, our students explore, create, and connect in ways that feel natural to them - and that’s where some of the most meaningful learning happens.

From independent building and problem-solving to collaborative group play, each child is given the opportunity to follow their curiosity. Whether working կողside friends to construct something new or engaging in focused solo play, these moments help develop confidence, creativity, and social skills.

Choice Time encourages decision-making, teamwork, and imagination - all while allowing each child’s unique personality and interests to shine. 💫

We love watching our learners take ownership of their play and discover the joy of learning together. 🧩✨

This week, our students explored the letter G in a whole new way—through sign language! 🤟

As part of their learning, they practiced signing words like giraffe, girl, and goat, connecting language, movement, and meaning all at once. It’s incredible to see how incorporating sign language not only reinforces letter recognition, but also builds communication skills, confidence, and inclusivity in the classroom.

Learning goes beyond words—it’s something you can see, feel, and express. We are so proud of their enthusiasm and curiosity as they continue to grow! 💛

This week we learned about Lewis Latimer, the brilliant inventor who helped improve the light bulb. 💡

While Thomas Edison is often mentioned, it was Lewis Latimer who developed a more durable carbon filament, making light bulbs last longer and more affordable for homes and cities. His work helped bring light into everyday life — changing the world in a powerful way.

The children explored the idea of “bright ideas” and how one person’s creativity can shine far beyond their time. We created our own light bulb crafts to celebrate Latimer’s contribution, filling them with bright yellow pieces to represent the glow of innovation and imagination.

It’s important for our little learners to see that inventors and changemakers come from many backgrounds — and that their ideas can light the way for generations to come. ✨

Today’s sight word focus was “or,” and our friends worked hard practicing, sounding out words, and building confidence in their reading. This is just one example of the strong progress happening as they read their lessons out loud. Clear voices, careful pacing, and growing fluency all show how meaningful consistent practice can be.

We’re so proud of the effort being put in each day and love seeing these skills come to life 📖💛

There’s something special about learning together. ✨
Today, our little learners practiced numbers, shapes, and matching skills — but the real magic was in the teamwork. When children are having fun, engaging with friends, and exploring hands-on activities, learning becomes joyful, natural, and meaningful.

From helping a friend place a shape to proudly naming their numbers, every moment builds confidence, connection, and curiosity. These are the foundations that make learning stick — and make school feel like a place they want to be. 💛📚

Growing minds, growing friendships… one playful moment at a time. 🌟
