A mother’s health before and during pregnancy can directly affect her baby’s growth, development and chances of survival.

For Infant Mortality Awareness Month, Tara Walker, DNP, APRN, ACNP-BC, ELAN-F, FAANP, clinical associate professor at the Wayne State University College of Nursing, explains how nutrition, stress, prenatal care and chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes can shape maternal and infant health outcomes.

“Until we can ensure that every woman, regardless of their income, their education [or] their insurance, is listened to and not dismissed, we’re not going to solve this problem," Walker said.

Today our Chapter members teamed up to walk to bring awareness to childhood cancer for St. Jude and along with other members, we've been raising money. Our fundraising will continue until the end of September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Families never receive a bill from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for treatment, travel, housing, or food.

Multiple myeloma is a blood cancer that affects thousands of people each year in the United States, and it has a higher incidence in the Black/African American community.

This evening Dr. Craig Emmitt Cole discussed these disparities, new treatments, importance of black people participating in clinical trials, and resources and support for people diagnosed with multiple myeloma and their families.

August 31st is International Opioid Overdose Awareness Month

Lambda Chi Chapter members appeared on Fox 2 News Detroit today to spread awareness.

Donulae T. Knuckles PhDc invited Dr. Cynthera McNeill on to share the resources she acquired to help save lives through Wayne State University College of Nursing BRIDGE grant. They also demonstrated how to use Narcan to saves lives.

On Monday, August 31st wear purple, remember those who loss their lives to opioids, support families, and empower communities.

Yesterday was AMAZING despite the downpour!⛈️🌧🌩⛈️ 🌩⛈️🌩⛈️🌧🌩🌧🌩⛈️🌧😡

The Lambda Chi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated provided blood pressure screenings and education, school physical exams, narcan training andv colorectal cancer education through Wayne State University’s BRIDGE grant, diabetes screenings and kidney disease education.

We collaborated to have free dental services from Kare mobile dental hygienist, eye exams from the Lions Foundation of Michigan and kidney disease screenings from NKF of Michigan.

We also partnered to give away backpacks
full of school supplies! There was so much more at this community event.

Thanks to the members who came out to make the health care part of this community event a success. They literally weathered the storm!
