Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Through Service and Unity

Observed each year on the third Monday of January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service, encouraging all Americans to give back to their communities. Dr. King’s vision of equality, justice, and unity remains a call to action, reminding us that service can bridge divides and unite people. As we reflect on his legacy, we are reminded that true progress comes from collective action—through volunteering, mentoring, and advocating for positive change.

At Wayne State Veterans Upward Bound, we honor Dr. King’s enduring impact by uplifting those who have served and empowering our community through education and opportunity. This MLK Day, we encourage everyone to find meaningful ways to serve—whether through supporting veterans, assisting those in need, or engaging in acts of kindness that promote equity and inclusion. Let us remember that Dr. King’s dream is a shared responsibility, and together, we can continue building a more just and compassionate society.

Great news for Veterans in the Downriver area! Your VA is closer than you think. The John D. Dingell VA Medical Center wants you to know of the VA Downriver Clinic conveniently located at 1640 West Fort Street in Trenton.

We're committed to providing Veterans with high-quality, convenient healthcare. Join us for an Open House on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 9am-Noon to meet the staff and learn more about VA healthcare in your neighborhood!

This clinic offers a full scope primary care services. This means Veterans can receive routine checkups, preventive care, and management of chronic conditions - all in your neighborhood. Plus, the VA Downriver Clinic is connected to the VN.s extensive network of specialty care providers and services, ensuring veterans have access to the care they need, when they need it. If you're a Veteran currently enrolled for VA healthcare and would like to switch to the Downriver Clinic, it's easy!
