YEA! It’s PHOTO DAY 2026 ‼️
Fun for All!
DWDA- where memories are made.
Let’s go!

At just 38, Mary is stepping fully into her power as Detroit’s first woman and first Black woman mayor. From her early days as the youngest City Council member to becoming the youngest City Council President, she has always led with heart, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to her city. Her journey has never been about titles. It has always been about purpose, progress, and people.

Mary is not just talking about change. She is writing it into policy. She has championed affordable housing, fought for tenant protections, and prioritized neighborhood revitalization that centers every Detroiter, not just the ones downtown. Her leadership on inclusionary housing and the Right to Counsel Ordinance proves that when equity and empathy guide your work, everyone wins.

Now, as mayor-elect, she is showing a new generation that you do not have to wait your turn to lead. You just have to be prepared when your purpose calls. She is living proof that leadership does not have to look or sound like what has always been done. It can be compassionate, visionary, and unapologetically rooted in community.

Mary, you are the blueprint for boldness. Keep shaking tables, breaking ceilings, and showing us what leadership looks like in motion. You remind us that when we lead with love and stand on purpose, the possibilities are limitless.

Let us lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there. ✨

Congratulations again Mary Sheffield, and thank you Gabrielle Union for including the photo where our Mayor Elect is holding her Detroit-Windsor Dance Academy poodle skirt concert costume as a little girl. She “Rises Higher” all the way. Debra White-Hunt Bruce Hunt
