“I’m trying to build the best design school in the world.” -D’Wayne Edwards, Founder, PLC Detroit Career-focused education is “wear” it’s at! We were proud to support the opening of @plcdetroit (PLC Detroit)’s @footlocker Footwear Creation Stu/deo at the new Detroit campus. The new design studio will offer a level of access and opportunity to Detroit’s aspiring design talent through workshops, sample services and more. PLC Detroit is the only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) focused on Design. And since Detroit it the only UNESCO City of Design in the United States, it’s fitting that this new space should open up right here in a global hub of culture and creativity! About Future Sole
Future Sole is an HBCU exclusive program created to discover, develop, and empower the future leaders & creators of the product industry. We’re going to train you in design thinking and creative strategy. This is a powerful skill that has the ability to reshape your approach and unlock new possibilities for whatever field you work in or want to be in.

*Must be 18 years or older
*Current HBCU students & HBCU graduates who have completed their studies within the past 3 years
*Must be available to attend the entire in-person session
*Must complete the full application and submission requirement

I share a mission with PepsiCo in wanting to create educational opportunities and provide valuable resources to young people who don’t always get the same support as their peers. Together, we want to inspire and encourage students to continue their creative journey and pursue a career in design.”

We teamed up with professional athlete Russell Westbrook (@russwest44) to unveil the new student-designed Pepsi x Frito-Lay Refresh Lounge at @pensolelewis, the first and only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) dedicated to design. ⁠ ⁠ The winning concept by students Rodney Banks and Angel Buckens (@angelbuckens) came to life with guidance from our team and support from @MillerKnoll. ⁠ ⁠ As part of our larger mission to increase representation in the design industry, we also supported Detroit high school students with a $25,000 donation to Diversity in Design and a creative-skills-building workshop with @mobilemakers_chicago . ⁠ ⁠ Russell Westbrook says, “I’m so grateful to be part of a partnership that is inspiring young Black creatives and prioritizing their education. I share a mission with PepsiCo in wanting to create educational opportunities and provide valuable resources to young people who don’t always get the same support as their peers.
