🇲🇽Local Channel 4 News did a segment on SW Detroit’s Cinco de Mayo Parade & Fiesta & we got to share a little bit about our group & showcase some of our members dancing!
✨To be able to present the wardrobe & dances that we did wouldn’t have been possible without the maestros who have come to teach us directly about their home states. States featured were:

🌎Thank you to the City of Oak Park for inviting us to be a part of their International Day of Dance event. We took the audience back to over a hundred years ago with the Mexican Revolution.

✨Join us for our annual end-of-year showcase where we culminate our academic year with a celebratory event. This showcase will highlight accomplishments of the group, such as our graduates, as well as showcase the regions that we have learned this year.
❤️🔥This year’s theme is “De México al Corazón de Detroit,” which translates to From Mexico to the Heart of Detroit. This title is very fitting because we are bringing dances and live folk traditions from Mexico to the Heart of Detroit which is here at Wayne State and in Midtown.
🪗We will be performing live with our special guests, Grupo Autónomo. Raised in Southwest Detroit & rooted in Mexico, Grupo Autónomo will complete our vision in bringing the love we have for our culture from Mexico to the Heart of Detroit.

Congratulations to our folklorista Diana that participated in the 16th Annual La Academia del Pueblo Latina/o/x and Latin American Studies Research Conference. Diana’s research was about “Carrying Memory Across Borders: Folklore in the Latin American Diaspora”
Students taking LAS 1420: Introduction to Interdisciplinary Latino/a Studies Research commit to a semester of research & present their topics at this annual conference. This conference also has panels & a keynote speaker. It is an amazing opportunity for students to be able to have opportunities to do research.
