Edwards Etiquette is proud to be part of the work that is impacting young lives and strengthening our Detroit community.

This summer, we had the privilege of welcoming five talented young people through the City of Detroit’s Grow Detroit Youth Talent (GDYT) program, providing opportunities to develop professional skills, confidence, communication, leadership, and workplace readiness.

We are also grateful for our involvement with AmeriCorps VISTA and Avengers Youth Mentoring Organization, and especially honored to see this work highlighted in the July 2026 AmeriCorps VISTA Newsletter.

For us, this work is about more than etiquette.

It is about equipping young people with the confidence, character, and skills to recognize their potential—and walk into their future prepared.

We are grateful for every opportunity to pour into the next generation and proud to play our part in Refining the Future.™

Happy Birthday to this legend.
Althea Gibson is one of our sheroes

99 years ago today, Althea Gibson was born, and while most people know her name because of what she accomplished in tennis, golf owes her a thank you too.

In 1964, Althea became the FIRST Black woman to earn LPGA Tour membership. Think about what that meant at that time. A Black woman walking onto professional golf courses and into country club environments across America during the 1960s, competing in places where she wasn’t always welcomed and sometimes wasn’t even allowed to use the same clubhouse, hotels or restaurants as everyone else. Yet she showed up, competed and ultimately made 171 LPGA starts.

Althea opened a door, but here is the uncomfortable part of her story: more than SIX DECADES later, we are still talking about how few Black women have earned LPGA Tour membership. That should bother all of us who love this game. Althea broke the barrier in 1964, but breaking a barrier and building a sustainable pathway are two very different things.

That is exactly why the Sapphire Golf Tour is so important.

We didn’t create Sapphire just to host golf tournaments. We created it because talented Black and Latina women still need places to compete, earn money, develop their games, attract sponsors and continue pursuing professional golf after college. There has to be something between having the dream and finally reaching the LPGA.

We are trying to build that SOMETHING.

Every tournament we host, every purse we raise, every HBCU golfer we reach, every sponsor who says YES and every person who supports these women helps make that pathway a little wider.

Althea Gibson should not have had to carry this fight alone in 1964, and these women should not have to carry it alone in 2026.

So today we celebrate her 99th birthday and everything she made possible. Tomorrow, we keep working.

Because honoring the FIRST means making damn sure she isn’t one of the LAST.

Happy 99th Birthday, Althea Gibson. Your legacy is still walking these fairways. 💎
