Congratulations to our cohort on completing a 6-week learning experience with Wolverine Worldwide, where they explored the industry, challenged themselves, and brought their ideas to life through creative design projects in Footwear and Color & Materials.

Creativity starts with an idea, and this week we had the opportunity to help bring those ideas to life.

We joined Mayor Mary Sheffield and Occupy the Summer for a community event where participants explored the footwear design process from inspiration to innovation. Together, they explored their inspiration, developed concepts, and created final renderings on 3D models of some of today’s most recognizable sneakers.

At PLC Detroit, we believe design should be accessible, hands-on, and inspiring. Seeing the next generation of creators discover what’s possible is what it’s all about.

16 designers. 10 weeks in-person. Three disciplines, Footwear, Apparel, and Color & Material Design, inspired by the sport, cultural energy, and craftsmanship of cities around the world.

The PLC Detroit x New Balance Capstone is accepting applications until July 26th, and we want to make sure the right people know about it before the deadline closes.

This is not a competition. This is a real design challenge. Teams will conceptualize a premium, high-performance, future-forward collection inspired by a city’s defining sport, cultural energy, and craftsmanship, built for the next generation.

For Donte Cotton, the iconic grey 990 was more than a sneaker. It represented culture, community, and something to aspire to.

That connection eventually led him to experience New Balance through a Pensole Lewis College masterclass, giving him an inside look at the people, values, and creativity that make the brand what it is today.
