The Detroit Community Sailing Center is a learn to sail program on Belle Isle in Detroit Michigan. I We teach youths, ages 10-17 to sail.
Challenge the Wind
Detroit Community Sailing Center's youth programs are called Challenge the Wind. By the end of a session participants will be able to safely sail without the assistance of the instructors. Make this young O’Pen BIC sailor happy again. We need 2 used O’Pen BIC hulls. Some mean person stole one of our hulls right off our dock. We have the sails and spars already. You can see what else we need on our Wish List https://www.sailingdetroit.org/wish-list.html #/

You can make this young O'Pen Bic sailor happy again. We need two used O'Pen Skiff (formerly Bic) hulls that are in good condition. We have the sail and spars. May 2026 Newsletter - Detroit Community Sailing Our sailing season is off to a great start, and there is plenty of excitement on the water. Our new Adult Learn to Sail students have met their boats, headed out for their first sails while enjoying a beautiful evening with the sun setting on the Belle Isle Bridge as a backdrop.

WE'RE HIRING- DIRECTOR POSITION
Join us at Belle Isle Park to run our “learn to sail” program! You’ll be in charge of all our youth and adult programs, helping to spread the word about our mission to teach sailing to kids who might not have the chance otherwise and to make Detroit’s waterways more accessible. This is a fantastic chance to sharpen your management and administrative skills with a fantastic team of paid and volunteer staff. US Sailing or ASA Certifications and competitive dinghy sailing are a plus. Flexible hours.
