-Resident of Detroit
-Graduating high school senior accepted to college or a student enrolled at a college
-A continuing undergraduate student in the academic year (2011) that the scholarship is awarded

“There are certain students who would never get the chance to go to college, if it weren't for scholarships. Rainbow PUSH thanks the General Motors Foundation for its generous contribution that will make a difference in several students’ lives”, says Glenda Gill, Executive Director of Rainbow PUSH Detroit Automotive Project. The topic on which students are requested to write their essay is “The automobile’s impact on American life is everywhere, for the car is much more than a means of traveling from one place to another. Explore the automobile's impact on American life through design, environment, and labor”. Vivian Pickard, GM Foundation President adds “When you’re worried about money or you can’t follow along in class because you don’t have the proper materials, it’s hard to focus. It means the world to me to offer on the behalf of the General Motors Foundation funds to potential future leaders.”

Scholarship entries must be postmarked by July 19, 2011 and mailed to Detroit Automotive Project, 4335 W.
