On June 25 John Corvino expressed his comments on becoming Dean Emeritus of the Irvin D. Reid Honors College!
_________

Today I was named dean emeritus by the Wayne State University Board of Governors, in recognition of my seven years of service to the Irvin D. Reid Wayne State Irvin D. Reid Honors College. My profound gratitude to Dean Elena Past, who advocated for it, and to Provost Keith Whitfield and President Rick Bierschbach, who recommended me to the BOG.

The good news could not have come a better time, as over the last few days I’ve closed a chapter in my life, moving out of not only our Detroit apartment (relocating to our cottage in west Michigan) but my Wayne State Philosophy office (volunteering to take a windowless office to make room for new faculty). The Detroit chapter is closing, but I’m looking forward to simplifying my life.

(Pictured: me at one of my Zoom to the Finish fundraisers, my pandemic-era innovation, raising money for the Finish Line Fund, which provides scholarships for graduating seniors.) I’m proud that the Finish Line Fund is still going strong. Consider making a gift (spoken like a true dean emeritus!).

This award recognizes the promise of her ongoing research and reflects Wayne State’s commitment to advancing impactful scholarship. The award will be used for research for Dr. Fowler’s second book project, Power Broker for a New Generation: Frances Williams Preston and Gender Politics in the Country Music Industry, 1948–2004.

The Grant Advance Program supports faculty as they pursue innovative research and strengthen proposals for future external funding, helping bring impactful ideas to life.
