At Cornerstone, character is an important part of living a Complete Life. That’s why each month, all our schools focus on the same character trait. Teachers and students discuss what it means and look for opportunities to put it into practice - in the classroom, in their relationships and in the choices they make every day. This consistent focus helps make character something we live, not simply something we talk about.

September’s character focus is Self-Control so that we can respond appropriately with heart and mind in all situations. Whether it means taking a moment before reacting, staying focused when something is difficult, managing strong emotions or making a thoughtful choice, self-control is a skill our students can practice every day.

While students across Detroit are heading back to class tomorrow, Cornerstone students get to squeeze in one more week of summer vacation. 😎

So sleep in a little longer, soak up some sunshine, and enjoy those last few summer days. Then get those backpacks ready because we can’t wait to welcome everyone back!

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, the day freedom finally reached enslaved African Americans in Texas on June 19, 1865 - more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our nation's history, honor resilience and build a future where every student has the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive.

With a mission driven by the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we recognize the importance of educating students who will lead with courage, serve others and help create a more just society.

At Adams-Young Middle School, students put compassion, leadership, and teamwork into action. As part of the school’s daily Social Emotional Learning program, “Crew,” students spent the week exploring the theme “Protect Our Planet & Be the Hero.”

From beautification efforts and recycling drives to donation collections, awareness campaigns, and acts of kindness, students transformed ideas into action.

We're proud of the leadership, teamwork, and service our students demonstrated as they worked to make a positive difference in the world around them.

Sometimes the greatest gifts are the ones that bring comfort and hope.

Recently, four Washington-Parks Academy families received an incredible surprise when Good Neighbor Day America delivered new furniture to their homes. These gifts provided more than couches, dressers, and dining tables - they helped create welcoming spaces where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

One parent shared that the support arrived at exactly the right time after months of balancing work, school, and the daily responsibilities of caring for a family.

Thank you to Good Neighbor Day America for reminding our families that they are seen, valued, and supported by a caring community.
