Our final stop on the Holiday Windows Tour is Case Number 4: “Dashing Through the Snow.” To view this case created by the Circulation Staff, you must head down to the Woodward Hallway. There underneath the twinkling wreath is this cheerful display. Decked out in bright red, a snow village is painted on the background. On the fluffy white snow play an assortment of woodland creatures including bears and deer. Snowmen greet visitors in this corridor of the library.

On Thursday, December 29 from Noon - 6 pm join us at the Redford Branch (21200 Grand River) for a Family Celebration! Enjoy this all day family event including make and take crafts, entrepreneur workshops, videos, food trucks and a large marketplace. End the day with a Kwanzaa Celebration and the lighting of the candle.

Let’s continue our Holiday Window Tour to Case Number 3: “Cozy by the Fire.” Located in the Cass Hallway across from the checkout desk, this case is brought to you by the staff from Children’s Library and HYPE, put together by Halima, Melissa and Tracey. A crackling fire roars in the fireplace constructed from a cardboard box. On the mantle are displayed books for the season, including “The Night Before Christmas: An African American Retelling,” “The Polar Express,” “’Twas Nochebuena,” and “Santa in the City.” While there’s snow and snowflakes all around, the case is meant to evoke the warm feelings of being inside on a cold winter day!

On Saturday, December 10, 2022 the Detroit Association of Black Storytellers visited the Duffield Branch to host a Holiday Storytelling Festival! We recorded the stories and will be sharing them with you during the holidays.

The next stop on our Holiday Window Tour is Case Number 2: “Happiness and Cheer.” You’ll recognize the Peanuts Gang in this case in the Cass Hallway created by the Popular Library department staff. With a snowy backdrop and Christmas lights hanging above, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and friends gather around the sparse little tree singing. Staff member Suzanne made the characters, first projecting them onto foam core board, then coloring in with paint and bright colored markers. The theme for this case is family and friends, as well as the nostalgia of fun childhood memories and the good feelings this time of year brings!

Grinch Day--hear the classic story, play some Grinch games, and make some Grinch crafts! The movie will be shown after. Ages 3 - 12.

Need a break from shopping or studying? Join us for a Winter Wind-Down and decompress with coloring, holiday music, and trivia questions! This is a drop-in program for adults.

The first stop on our Holiday Window Tour is Case Number 1: “Cooking for the Holidays with DPL Resources!” Located at the far end of the Cass Hallway, this case was created by the staff from the SSER Department (Social Science, Education and Religion). Festively decked out in green and red, this case highlights holiday cooking! From the pots, the wooden spoons, to all the cookbook covers—this case is sure to get you thinking about all the delicious treats of the season. Did you know that the library has an amazing collection of cookbooks?
