‼️HAPPY NEW YEAR. Many of you know I have a program called BEAT THE STREETS and we have impacted students all over the country with our program. We have only done 2 fundraisers in 11 years, one in 2022 and now this one. In this new year, we have a lot planned, but not enough resources to support the need and deliver to the students. Thank you for your support in 2016. Beginning of the year we shot an incredible short called "Glimpses of Heaven" with Grey's Anatomy star Tessa Ferrer which will be the start of something huge being announced in 2017. Our short film "Scars" won multiple awards at film festivals and our play "Beat the Streets" have added the cities of Atlanta and Philadelphia to the list of stops on the touring schedule. We thank God for these accomplishments and we look forward to doing more in 2017, including updating this page more frequently 😅

WHAT'S HAPPENIN' TODAY AT MLK!!!!

Last Friday our students, staff, parents and friends were treated to an amazing production of the nationally touring play, “Beat the Streets.” Martin Luther King Jr. Academy for Boys was proud, and excited, to be the FIRST, and only, sight in the Toledo area to host this important and meaningful stage production.

The story is an adaptation of the book, “The Pact.” The true story of 3 young men who become friends and their struggles to follow through on an agreement they all make to become doctors. The story takes us through several trials and tribulations that our young men face every day in life and how they came to rely on each other to find the strength to overcome and carry on.

Our students laughed, reflected and even cried, as they enjoyed this incredible stage show put on by Seedtime and Harvest Productions. After the show, the cast came out to talk with our young men and answer questions they had about the show, the story, the characters, etc.

We wholeheartedly encourage EVERYONE to see this production for yourself the next time it’s showing in town. Currently, the production is touring in Detroit but may return again soon.

Our short film "Scars" was selected to screen at the Capital City Black Film Festival in Austin Texas in August. God is good. I can't wait for you guys to see this short film. We worked really hard on it and everyone will be able to see it soon

Two weeks ago on this day we embarked on a journey. We filmed our first SAG short film starring "Grey's Anatomy" and "You're the Worst" star Tessa Ferrer (who will also be headlining a new Shonda Rhimes TV series this fall). We plan on garnering attention for this film to make the feature before the end of the year. We already have so much interest and we thank God for the opportunity to share this great inspirational story that we plan on sharing with the world. We thank you for your support. Stick around
