Week 5- Drywall installation and Repair

This week our ladies learned the basics of how to hang drywall and finish it. Then we let them have a little fun with the hammer knocking holes in the new drywall so that could practice making minor repairs!

Week 4- Electrical ⚡️

These young ladies learned the basics of wiring including: what a circuit is, how to wire an outlet, switch, and light fixture. Once they completed a circuit we tested them by tampering with their set up and troubleshooting it to get it back working. They all did a great job!

We are doing a 2nd round of crowdlending for a total of $15,000 which will be used for new equipment, marketing, and expanding our skilled trades programming for the Metro Detroit area! 👷🏿‍♂️👷🏽‍♀️👷🏼

A loan of $15,000 helps a repeat Kiva borrower access new equipment & supplies to train more individuals in poverty-stricken areas.

Shout out to Lowe's Foundation for helping to secure the future of skilled trades for disadvantaged communities! We are looking forward to the opportunity to partner for funding and provide services in our community!

The Lowe’s Foundation Gable Grants program is a 5-year, $50 million commitment to train 50,000 job-ready skilled tradespeople to build a stronger infrastructure that supports our communities for the long term. From 2023-2028, community and technical colleges and community-based nonprofit organizations across the country can apply for grants to recruit, train and employ the future skilled trades workforce.

Our 1st Community Project of 2023 was a SUCCESS for our Heavy Equipment class!

We demolished 2 old garages in my old neighborhood(Schoolcraft) that were partially collapsed using an excavator and skidsteer. Students learned how to estimate project costs, mobilize, prepare site, management roles, and how to safely/effectively operate the equipment.

We are looking for more projects!
