Burton International Academy dismissal time is 11:40am. Please be prompt in picking up your scholar. All scholars are expected to attend school, despite the early dismissal.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend. Thank you to all scholars, staff, and parents who participated in our Spirit Week. As we prepare for the coming week, parents, all scholars are expected to be in uniform, from shirts to bottoms, to shoes. The weather is changing, plan accordingly by having your scholars wear a sweater or long sleeves. Please check your scholar, and their bags before leaving home.

Here are this weeks announcements. There are 20 school days remaining until gradebooks close for the first quarter. Speak with your scholar about the importance of completing their work correctly and on time.

Last week Ms. Denning sent home letter to kindergarteners, 7th graders and scholar new to the district, regarding updated immunizations. Please ask your scholars for this information. To support this effort, our school will be hosting an Immunization Clinic on Wednesday, October 12th, 8:30am-1:00pm. A flyer to register is attached to the email version of this message and will be sent home with scholars on Monday.

For Kindergarten – 2nd grade parents, a letter was sent home requesting your attendance for grade specific parent meetings. Kindergarten parent meeting will be on Tuesday, 1st grade will be on Wednesday, and 2nd grade will be on Thursday. All meetings will be at 8am, in the cafeteria.

On Friday, October 14th, our community will be observing Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We ask all members of our community to wear pink and white. We are also asking each member for a $1 donation for this endeavor. All donations will be forwarded to the Karmonos Cancer Institute for Cancer Research.

Also on Friday, October 14th, Progress Report #2 of the first quarter will be sent home with scholars

Lastly, a calendar will be attached to the email version of this message. It gives you a snapshot of upcoming events and important dates.

I hope all is well and you are enjoying this beautiful fall weekend. Here are this weeks announcements. This week is Spirit Week. The schedule is as follows, Monday is Crazy Hat Day, Tuesday is Crazy Sock Day, Wednesday is Twin Day, Thursday is Pajama Day, and Friday is Michigan College Day. If your scholar is not participating in Spirit Week, they must be in uniform.

Wednesday, October 5th is Count Day. As always, make sure your scholar is on time and present all day, so they are counted.

Lastly, and very important, the first quarter ends November 7th. This means there are 25 school days remaining until the end of the first quarter. Time is of the essence. Please message to your scholar the importance of respecting the learning environment, paying attention in class, completing their work correctly and submitting it on time.

Tuesday, September 6th, I will be hosting two virtual parent meetings to provide an overview of our first week, updates and activities. The meeting will be held via Microsoft Teams. I will also be addressing behaviors that we have been seeing from scholars. To accommodate parents, one meeting will be in the morning at 10:00am and the other will be in the evening at 5:30pm.
