Thank you CDA Council for Professional Recognition for recognizing my work of inclusivity and culturally responsive practices in our Spanish bilingual program in Southwest Detroit. Children learn better when they have a sense of belonging in the classroom and parents are more engaged when they feel welcomed of having staff that can communicate with them in their home language. Bi-Lingual communities bring valuable perspectives that can make great impacts on the children and the communities we serve!

Najwa Dahdah is transforming childcare in Southwest Detroit through her inclusive and culturally responsive practices at Empowered Community Learning Center, serving the Hispanic community with bilingual classrooms and a celebration of diversity. Read more here: https://ow.ly/fQRe50TWmqv

How One Woman’s Vision Is Transforming Childcare in Southwest Detroit 10/01/2024

Wishing our Latino Community a Happy and Blessed Spanish Heritage month. I am truly honored and humbled to be highlighted during Spanish Heritage month. As an Arab American Early Childhood Educator, I am an advocate for culturally and linguistically responsive programs. My husband Said Dahdah and I take pride in our small Spanish Bi-lingual 2 FREE classroom center making great impacts in the community. Thank you Early Childhood Investment Corporation for recognizing our intentional work to strengthen communities. Thank you Ms. Felicitas Gonzalez for your acknowledgement of our work and the time you invested in our program.

I also want you to thank Christine Bell Executive Director of Urban Neighborhood Initiatives and her amazing staff for being supportive partners to keep the program accessible to families at no cost for children ages 3 years Strong Beginnings and 4-5 years GSRP. These programs are made possible from Wayne Resa - Early Childhood.

Special thanks to our community partners, IFF, Congress of Communities, Brilliant Detroit, Great Start Collaborative Wayne, Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency, Keep Growing Detroit, MiSide, Tara at Detroit PBS and her team, and Detroit Soars for your support of our program. Together we will continue to build stronger and healthier communities !
